Default Anyone flown recently with a large Sherpa bag from the east coast?

Hi - I'm new to this forum and do agility and obedience with my 13" tall pug. I would really like to go to Nationals in the fall in California and have a large Sherpa bag which he can go into if he lies down. Any recent experiences flying with a large Sherpa? Any planes, airports, etc recommended? I've never flown with him. Thanks.

I flew Isis to Tampa from here. I think I flew NW.....sat in the middle seat! It was great!

I'm thinking of flying Ben to the Nationals if he remains in the top 25....... It'll be tight...but we'll do it!

The large sherpa was a total no go for my Doxies ...we got a great soft side from amazon with a pull out frame. they both fit just fine, we flew on SW, took the window seat, and flew tulsa to San Diego with a lay over each way. Frame out & cutting board in to fly, frame in to toodle around the airport. Worked like a charm and it was a great trip with the Dapple Duo

How big and how old are your pugs? How long were they shut up in the bag without being out? Did you have any problems with needing bathroom breaks or their wanting to be let out?
My husband cut out a carton for me and the large Sherpa fits inside pretty well. I'm just not sure how an active 3 year old pug would do for 4 hours or so at a time. He will go in the Sherpa - but he can't stand up in it - he has to lie down.

I have Doxies ... The Dapple Duo are 4 and 2, about 14 and 18 pounds. Active is a mild adjective for those two. they are BusyBusyBusy!!!!!!!
They were in the crate for at least 2 hours at a time ... and we had practiced for 2 weeks before. Lots of airports have doggy rest areas ... I had them all mapped out, the crate was on a luggage wheelie for maximum portability. I got them out in the terminal until I was told to put them up. They got a benedryl half hour before flight time. I did not feed them 12 hours before we left, just as with surgery. Offered ice chips on the plane. we sat at the window seat in the back of the plane (early boarding) so the skin of the plane helped keep them cool.
    It was a great trip!!

The rule when I flew was that they had to be able to stand up...Isis could barely. Most dogs sleep all day anyway...and are fine!!!!! I did give Isis benadryl. She was 18lbs

Ben is 20-21...IF I go to Nationals with him we fly! I'm told I won't have a problem! You do need a health certificate. It's the only time I get a Rabi's shot!

We have no experience of flying but I collected Audrey as a puppy in our Sherpa carrier - it involved a couple of shortish train journeys - she pee'd through the carrier all over the floor of the train (much to my horror ) and had nearly eaten her way out of it by the time I got home - but she is a particularly feisty pug

That is why I love my soft side with the frame ... when we check in and stroll through the terminal, the DD have all the room in the world to move around. Take it out to board, and they fit under the seat like it was made for travel :-)
