    Default Agility

Has anyone ever done agility with their pugs? The place where Murphy and I take classes is now offering agility. I'm thinking of taking agility with him this summer after we're done with our intermediate classes and he's taken the CGC test (and hopefully passes.)

Think pugs are a good candidate for this?

I think pugs are great candidates! Lemon just finished her first round of agility classes. She *loved* it. (Well, all except the dogwalk, which I've posted about here before.) You could just see this huge smile on her face every time she went over a jump, and right after she finished the course. Pure joy. You just want to be sure that he's old enough, since it can be hard on a growing puppy's joints -- the growth plates need to be closed. We waited 'til Lemon was 1 1/2. But many places offer beginners and/or puppy agility.

We'll probably take another class this summer, after she finishes and passes (fingers crossed!) her CGC.

Pugs do great in agility. See flying Willy in my avatar! My three all compete in agility. They absolutely love it, and start screaming the second we start to even get close to the place we train at.

Oh very cool! We'll definitely look into it then! The place we take classes has a beginner class to start.

How old were your three when they started doing agility?

Rudy was almost 5, Willy was 3 and Kittie was about 2 1/2. I didn't plan to wait that long, that's just how old they were when we got around to it.

When I get my new puppy, we'll probably start working on foundation work from the start, but I doubt I'll do any real training until at least a year, maybe a year and half.
