Well, in just about 45 minutes, Wonka and I head out for our first "public" canine freestyle performance!!! We're going to my nephew's 2nd grade class to dance for them. It should be an "easy" crowd! I'm hoping it will give me a bit more confidence before our Dog Show debut in a few weeks. After we dance, I'll be talking about the proper way to approach and pet a dog... since I'm sure they will all want to pet Wonka, it seemed like the perfect educational opportunity.

Have a blast! This will show how Wonka reacts to chatter & other distractions in the background, because no way are those kids gonna sit still.

We made it!!! It wasn't our best dance, but we made it through the whole thing. The kid's were wild about having a little dog come to visit them. I think Wonka could have just stood there and they would have loved it. He did fantastic considering the noise and new smells, etc. And, after the dance and answering questions I talked about how to pet a dog, about asking permission first, being calm while petting, etc. and then had them line up single file to pet Wonka while I held him. He was GREAT! Several of the little girls hugged him. The only time I was concerned was when a bunch of kids started to crowd him, but I asked them to back up and wait their turn and they did.
I'm so proud of him!!!! And I'm so relieved that we got through our first audience with no really major problems... just a few missed steps, but I doubt the kids noticed.

Oh, and the teacher said I can come back with Wonka and dance anytime!
