Wonka and I were in our very first Canine Freestyle (dancing with dogs) competition on Saturday - and we did it, we proved that PUGS CAN DANCE!Woo Hoo! Go Wonka Go!
I'm just so proud of Wonka and of myself. Of course, there are things that we didn't do right... and a few things that we missed entirely. But I had very positive comments from the judges and overall I am happy.
- Wonka placed 2nd in the Beginner A group... He got a medal on a ribbon for that.
- He got a ribbon for Qualifying Score
- He got a little bed for "Highest Scoring Small Beginner dog" (Wonka thinks this and the HUGE Milkbone biscuit were the best prizes! He thinks the bed is a stuffie toy!
)
- and he got a bandana from one of the judges. With a story behind it... basically, the judge said that when he first started judging he had the problem of always falling in love with one dog and watching ONLY the dog during the routine. When the routine was over he'd have to score it and would realize he hadn't really been watching the handler at all because he was so charmed by the dog. Nowadays, he gives a little gift out to "the dog he fell in love with" during the competition. For that day, Wonka was that dog.
Everybody loves Wonka.
People said that he "just has personality leftover!" and "what a charmer"

During the awards ceremony. The man bending down to pet Wonka is the one who gave him the bandana.
I haven't looked at the video that we took yet. I know it was NOT our best performance so I don't know if I'll post it or not... I'll have to take a look and decide when I have time later on. Wonka was more distracted than I've ever seen him during the routine and I'm sure a big part of that was due to my nerves. The audience clapping and everything else just added to it. We had a few moments of panic where he did totally the wrong thing and once when he looked like he was running for the gate - but, Thank Goodness, he came right back to me when I called him!!!The scoring is divided into Artistic and Technical... we lost a few points on technical (attention issues mainly), but did very well on artistic.
We're both resting up today after an extremely long day yesterday. I may post more about the actual competition a little later on.
Thank you PV for ALL your support, help and good wishes!!!!!!
