Well, Wonka and I are finally making some progress on our new routine and I finally got a decent video during our practice session today. Enjoy!
Side by Side, practice session Oct. 2009 video by wonkapugfreestyle - Photobucket
or on Wonka's web site at: Canine Freestyle Video
The song is "Side by Side" by the Puppini Sisters. The song was originally popular during the Great Depression. Costume is supposed to be 'down on our luck' hobo look.
For those who are new and don't have a clue what I'm talking about... Wonka and I do a dog sport called Canine Musical Freestyle, also known as Dancing with Dogs. Many people dance with their dogs just for fun, to entertain at nursing homes or for exercise, but it can also be done competitively. Wonka and I have competed a few times now and Wonka is one of only a few pugs in the US with a title in this sport (not many pugs compete). When judged competitively, the score is divided into two parts: technical mastery (content, focus and attention, precision, coverage of the floor space, etc.) and artistic interpretation (choreography, costume, fluid transitions, audience appreciation, etc). There is a lot of focus on showing the bond between handler and dog. The title order is: Beginner (2 qualifying scores needed), Novice (3 Q scores), Intermediate (3 Q scores), Advanced (3 Q scores) and Perfect Dance Partner (4 Q scores). Wonka has his beginner title in both solo and team routines and we have the first qualifying score (out of three needed) for our Novice solo title. Our next competition is just a couple of weeks away!! Eeek! Wish us luck!!!!!!

Thanks Diane, we're making progress. I can see a few (glaring) mistakes or hesitations that other people may not really notice.... but it is getting better. Just gotta keep practicing for the time we have left.
One of the ladies in our Team (group) routine is showing her Bedlington's that weekend in Grand Rapids so she won't be doing the Freestyle competition... I wonder if it's the same show you're doing?
