Default HOMEMADE liver treats...going to try this today...

I found some liver in the freezer and there is enough of it to make a good batch of treats.
you put the liver in the oven on lowest setting to dry and cook for 6 hours then let it dry the rest of the way on the counter for a couple of days and the cut up and store...

I can not stand LIVER msyself but the dogs love it. hope this works.it is much cheaper then buying it dehydrated or baked then dried..

anyone done this before for their pugs?

This is the one I use. I have others, including the recipe for Trout Cookies which is like puggy crack.

    BOW-WOW-NIES

    Ingredients:
    1 lb Chicken livers
    1 cup flour
    1 cup corn meal
    1 Tablespoon garlic powder
    1 egg
    Directions
Place Chicken livers and liquid in blender, liquefy.
Add egg, mix a minute more. Pour into bowl.
Add flour, corn meal and garlic powder.
Mix. Spray jelly roll pan with pam.
    Pour mixture into pan.
Bake 15 minutes in 400 degree hot oven.
Cut into small squares while still warm.
Keep in freezer to prevent spoilage.

    TROUT COOKIES

Too bad you can't buy canned trout that I know of. I bet you could use canned tuna or salmon.

    2 Cups Wheat Flour
    1 Cup Cornmeal
    Pinch of salt
    3 Tablespoons Vegetable oil
    1 Cup water
    1 Cup Trout
    1 small clove of garlic

I mixed everything in the food processor and mixed till doughy consistency.

Shape into small balls and place on greased cookie sheet. I flattened the balls down with a fork.

    400 degrees for 15 minutes.

Cute picture! It looks like he's really enjoying his special treat. Do you find that their tummies tolerate these treats ok? I've read that liver can be kind of rich & can cause loose/runny stools.

I tried these this weekend, but w/ salmon as opposed to trout, don't think they have any canned around here...these cookies were a HUGE hit, Charlie goes nuts for them - thanks for the receipe!!!
