What's the difference between Wellness CORE, Wellness Super5, and regular Wellness? Is there a PV preference?

I don't know the differences of all of them, but the CORE is their grain free. I tried the Ocean on Buster for his allergies. He liked it and did well on it and I use it as a "trade out" from his Ziwi Peak to help keep allergies at bay.
The difference is the ingredients. Core is grain free. I feed Diesel and Grace the Core original formula. Makayla gets the Super 5 Complete Health since she needs a little lower protein diet. LOVE Wellness - I've been extremely happy since I switched them to it a couple months ago.

In some pugs Wellness can cause crystal issues. I've had several pug owners I know have this problem with Wellness.
Yeah I personally dont like Wellness dry food either, I feed the CORE cans to my cats, but I wouldnt feed either cats or dog the kibble. It is fairly high in phosphorus and calcium, which is a contributing factor in urinary crystal formation, and since my older cat does have some urinary health issues, I make sure to stay away from anything like that. And two of my old co-workers from a pet store I used to work at tried the Wellness and both dogs (at different times) developed crystals.
What kinds of crystals have formed on animals fed Wellness? It has been thought for a long time that high protein causes struvite crystals. However, lots of research has proven that's not the case. If you have a dog with struvites, your vet will most likely recommend a low protein diet. You can reduce the crystals by increasing their water intake and urine output, a/k/a add lots of water. Often times, it isn't necessary to switch them to a low protein diet to clear up the crystals, although vets will usually recommend that.
There's a great article in the April (I think it's the April issue) issue of Whole Dog Journal about struvite crystals. Then the following month there's an article on oxalate calcium crystals.
Definitely do more research than what your vet tells you - they simply are NOT knowledgeable about food whatsoever.

It was regular Wellness(not high protein) that caused the crystals in several pugs I know. In all cases it was struvite and once the pugs were switched off Wellness within 30 days the crystals were totally gone. Like Kat says it's the phosphorus and calcium that can cause the crystal problems in some pugs.
High protein is a whole other subject.
