Does anyone feed corn cobs to their dogs as a chewy?
It's full corn season here in Montreal, and the corn on the cob is glorious this year. We just had some, and I gave in to the pleading eyes. Both dogs took their half of a cob (corn eaten off, no butter, no salt) and had a good nom, just LOVING it. They were both sucking off the leftover niblets, and gnawing the cob.
I took it away after a couple of minutes because I didn't know whether they should have it or not. Of course, I would never give it unsupervised, but what do you think?

Be very careful, I was told by my vet that they are really bad for dogs. They don't digest.

I used to feed them as treats to my old non-pug dogs, and they loved them and ate the completely, then they came out the other end the next day. I don't think I'd give them to pugs though. Corn is just not good for them.
Take care,
Lisa

Corn is one of the major allergens for dogs.

You shouldn't be feeding corn cobs. I've known several pugs that got into the garbage and ate some and they ended up in surgery because they blocked their intestines. Plus you should always try and stay away from anything with corn in it weather is food and or treats. All around it's not a good thing for dogs.
Yes, someone on here had a pug a few years ago who swallowed a piece of cob whole....it did "come out in the wash" so to speak, but it was a tense few days for the owner!
