In particular, I'm trying to choose between Stella and Chewy's Duck Duck Goose and ZiwiPeak canned. I think the canned would be a lot easier to store, but as far as flavor and quality goes, does anyone have any opinions on the issue of choosing between high quality raw and high quality canned?
As for the costs, there isn't much difference where I am. I know both are great foods and dogs seem to love them, but I would really like to hear opinions that compare the two types of food. One of my girls has terrible skin problems too, so I'm hoping this change might help with that.
Thanks!
I have been using the ZP air dried for a long time and LOVE it. I just got my first cans of the ZP canned the other day. The dogs all seem to love it, although I've just given them spoonfuls on top of their food. It is VERY thick and looks kind of gross, has quite a bit of the gelatainous stuff. But the dogs give it two paws up and it has been well tolerated here. I will keep it around as a topper for finicky fosters, ill dogs and such, but it is too expensive for me to feed as the main food for my pack. It costs me $3.99 per can and if I was feeding it alone I would probably go through 8-10 cans per day.
Take care,
Lisa

I think S&C is just too expensive to feed on a regular basis (over $500/month) so I decided to give Pugpillow's melange a try. I'll stock up on some canned ZP for those times when I need back up. Oddly looking forward to preparing this raw diet for them, hehe (even if I can't stand touching/smelling raw meat).
That's wonderful! the nice thing about making your own is you can vary it, adding supplements, giving them a little pumpkin one ime, a little yogurt the next, change up the fruits and veggies. Try to find organic meat and vegetable sources if you possibly can. I think the hormones and antibiotics most of our feed animals receive are probably not good for us or our dogs, same with the pesticides and such used on our crops.
Keep us updated on how it goes. Do you have a good meat grinder?
