I for one had never done that before. well I tried with the new food and soaked it really well and it was a hit this am.
just wander if I should be doing this for all my dogs??
and do I keep it up daily?
A pugs world is full of play and sleep and of course good food.........
I'm not Lisa, but I'll give my opinion anyway.... if you are feeding a kibble type of food, yes, you should add water. ESPECIALLY if you have a pug that has ever had UTI's, crystals, stones, etc.
Imagine eating dry cereal (no milk) every day for breakfast... your body would need a lot of water to help wash it down. Well, on top of being dry like cereal, Kibble has the moisture cooked out of it (dehydrated) and it needs to re-hydrate within the body. Adding water to each meal not only helps the dog to get enough water to re-hydrate the kibble properly, but it can also help to slow down their eating and helps to flush out the system a bit better.

I can't think of any reason NOT to flood your dog's food with water...It is most important with kibble and dehydrated types, but is also good for those getting canned and raw.
Take care,
Lisa

I feed dry all the time here

I have been doing that with Buddy's kibble for about 6 years, ever since his first bout with crystals. He hasn't had a problem with UTI's or crystals in about 5 years. Oscar gets the same as well, just because that's what I'm used to. I think it's a great idea! As they say "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

Yeah, we flood almost all food that the pugs eat - raw, canned, dehydrated raw, kibble... if the pugs are eating it out of a bowl it gets water added. Obviously we don't add water to treats fed by hand though! That might be a bit messy! We started adding water to Nilla's food because of the UTI's and stones that Nilla had, but Wonka gets the extra water on his food as well.... same as Jennifer does for Buddy and Oscar "an ounce of prevention..."

This all makes sense to me but...I thought dogs and cats needed dry food to aid in cleaning teeth?I am going to "flood" their kibble and see how they like it.

according to the vet...just talked to her today about this after the thread
and they agree too helps to aid in degestion and no dry food does not stop the build up of tartar on their teeth..so they say...
and suggestion the same thing to add warm water to all kibble..as well.
it is just water that you are adding anyhow and most of a carnavoire's diet is water so makes sense I guess
so tomorrow will FLOOD the bowl as Lisa says..and see how they like it
also wander if certain food makes them more thirsty as well. the other was chicken meal based and this is fish based the new one and they are all drinking much more...hmmm

Yes, fishy is salty and so they will be thirstier.

It is an old wive's tale that kibble helps remove tartar.
