    Default Food for Puppy Pugs

What food do you all suggest for a 9 week old Pug? My Emmett is Pro Plan Small Breed Puppy. Doing find on it. Just curious what everyone else feeds their Pugs, as I am a new Pug owner & want the best for my fur baby.
Thanks & looking forward to hearing from everyone :)

Dog Food Reviews | Dog Food Ratings gives very good advice and ratings for dog food. They rate Pro Plan as a below average kibble, but don't have an actual review for the puppy version.

"Purina Pro Plan is primarily a grain-based dry dog food using only a fair amount of chicken, beef or lamb as its main sources of animal protein… thus earning the brand two stars.

    Not recommended"

I do not have a puppy, so I can't speak to actual puppy food. We feed our dogs Taste of the Wild grainfree High Prairie Canine formula and they do brilliantly on it. There are a ton of 4 and 5 star dog foods listed on dogfoodadvisor.com.

Thanks. I have heard of adding veggies, eggs, to the kibble as well, would that be to much for a puppy? I have also heard about feeding raw. Just trying to keep all my options open because I want my pup to get the nest nutrition he can get :)

For the best nutrition I would recommend raw. Phoebe mainly eats Natures Variety and sometimes Stella & Chewy's. There are many varieties and brands to choose from. Some kibble choices that many pugs seem to do well with on here are Taste of the Wild and Orijen. I'm sure there will be many others along shortly to give you some more advice. Congrats on your new baby!

There are many articles in the dogfoodadvisor library. Give those a read too, not just the food reviews. RawFed.com Home Page

NATURAL PET ANIMAL HOSPITAL 3 articles under "dog and cat nutrition" on the left side bar.

There's frozen raw, freeze dried raw, dehydrated raw...raw additions from the grocery store like liver and gizzards and kidney and heart, lightly scrambled eggs, sardines packed in water (preferably no salt or salt rinsed off). For a puppy (and all ages) additional probiotics is a good addition to help strengthen the immune system and digestive enzymes to help breakdown kibbles and good for overall cellular function.

Homemade raw or cooked: I'd recommend a cookbood for background knowledge. The worst diet is an unbalanced diet whether its cooked or raw. Without the proper balance or nutrients (macr/micro/vits/essential fatty acids) the dog will be undernourished, can lead to malnutrition, organ damage, organ failure.
