    Default I NEED HELP! Please!

Alright, so my dogs are on C/D Prescription Diet because previously had issues with Urinary system. The bag is almost 50 bucks every 2-3 weeks because I have three pugs. I don't want to take them off completely, but I do want to start mixing with a cheaper brand. More than likely 60% C/D brand and 40% of the cheaper kind. ANOTHER REASON I am switching is that the C/D food is extremely fattening. My little ones are getting wayyy too big and I need another kind of food that will help with weight.

My husband went to Walmart and bought the Beneful Weight food for dogs, but I keep reading bad reviews and plan on returning it.

Anyone have any ideas? What is a good brand to mix with their current food? Good for their weight, and isn't too expensive.

I find it odd that all 3 pugs are on the RX diet. They all have urinary problems? What kind of problems?

Two of them have had urinary crystals.. very bad. The two oldest. The youngest I have just let her join in with the food, as it is easier and the vet said it's okay. It is more expensive, as well as making all three of them over weight.. so I def DONT want them on it, just afraid if I take them off of it, they will have urinary problems again.

I'm sorry but science diet dog food is crap and so is beneful. Any thing cheaper is likely to be crap too. Cheap dog food usually equates to higher vet bills. We put our 3 pugs on a raw diet. It's definitely not cheap but they are all at a great weight according to our vet and they have no allergy issues. They have healthy coats and eyes and are doing just great.

We feed two Pugs prepared raw for less than the previously fed Hills. Minni had stuvite crystals /stones prior to prescription diet but no recurrence with raw diet. Every aspect of their health is better, poop, coats, anal glands, everything!

I don't know what would need to added to/kept out of a raw diet but that may be worth considering.

If they need a particular food to keep crystals away I really don't think it is at all wise to change them to something different; certainly not without veterinary advice. The younger pug can be switched to something different as crystals are not an issue there.

If they put on weight feed them less. I know pugs appear to be perpetually hungry but if you are really worried about feeding them less then bulk it up with green beans or other veggies, or maybe some poached white fish.

Doesn't it just depress you guys that you can't ask a vet for dietary advice? There are some notable exceptions, but most of them don't have a clue. So people keep on feeding crappy food, which causes more health problems.
