    Default Chew treats

When Bertie went to a few sociailising puppy parties which our local vet hosts I was given a bag with lots of little bits and bobs for him in, this was about 3 weeks ago.

Well the tiny terror found the bag this morning under the bed, I had completely forgotten about it, but inside there was a little chew toy which Bertie is absolutely obsessed with. It didn't come with any packaging but I think it is one of these..

Well he had a crocodile one, but I have no idea of the brand or even what it is made of.
I know we shouldnt be giving him rawhide so I don't anymore, but was wondering if these are alright for him as he seems completely obsessed and it didn't last very long!

If they all look okay then I can go and get some more for him but I thought I would be better off checking first!

Toddy was given a croc when he was a pup and he liked it very much too. I was not sure of what was in it so I never got any more. I expect it is cereal based.

Next time I go anywhere near my vets I will go in and ask what it is made from, it just seemed to disappear so quickly, wasnt sure if it was safe if chunks were coming off to be swallowed, I am such a worry but after making the mistake of giving him rawhide I didn't want a repeat!

I just googled the product and found the ingredients list under the 3rd paragraph. We have the hedgehog here by me but I have never seen the crocodile. I might get one for Phoebe to try.

I thought that rawhide bones were okay for dogs to chew on, as long as they are supervised? My vet has them in her office, so I assumed they were dog friendly. Should I take Nano's rawhide bone from him?

I was giving Bertie rawhide but he was managing to take chunks off it, heard a horror story (may have been here or may have been from a friend, cant remember) that someones dog swallowed chunks of the rawhide and it started rotting in the stomach as its not really digestible. So I freaked out when I heard it and not let him have one since, which is a shame as he loved them but when I wasnt home and he was being looked after by the inlaws they werent watching him when he had one even though I told them to always watch him. It ended up being easier chucking them as I couldnt trust them to eagle eye him all day!

I started even the young pups on real bones..
you can get soup bones from your butcher at the grocery store
or you can get them from an actual butcher too
FEED them raw to the pup..they do not splinter and keeps them busy for hours
A pugs world is full of play and sleep and of course good food.........

Have you tried marrow bones yet? I got a leg bone at the grocery store butcher (Market Street) and it only cost me less than $3 and they will slice it for you. You can also get them from Sprouts sometimes too.
