Default Best type of bone for Silas to chew on...

What type of bone or dehydrated animal part is best for your dog to chew on? I know raw hide is no good...the woman at the pet store recommended any type of natural bone or a dehydrated ear I believe. Just wanted to see what you guys use. Silas is constantly wanting to chew. Also, side note: when will he out grow that puppy wanting to chew everything in sight stage? He's just a little over a year.

I go the butcher and get real bones and feed them raw to the bulldogs and pugs
after they had them..nothing else compares..lol
deer antlers were not a hit along with the nylabones..but they are good choices too

you can get soup bones from the grocery store and feed them raw and they are great too
A pugs world is full of play and sleep and of course good food.........

Some dogs go for the antlers and some don't. They are a good alternative if your pug likes them. Our kids have antlers and get raw marrow bones every other week.

My pugs also like rib bones. Also the large dehydrated sweet potato slices are harder to chew up and last longer - like from Sams Yams. (frontporchpets.com) Here's a link where you can find farms near you and buy all sorts of bones and raw foods. Eat Wild.

Those of you who give raw bones to your Pugs...could you give me an idea of which bones specifically and which species? I'm considering them for my 6-y.o. Pugs but I'm not sure which are best. There seem to be a lot of opinions on the subject. Thanks for your help.

I've used leg bones (marrow bones), rib bones (bison) for gnawing. The bones they eat are chicken thighs/drumsticks/necks and turkey necks and lamb ribs and pig ears. Generally for eating, you want to give them non weight-bearing bones from large animals. Chickens being small, they can be eaten (legs, wings, frames, backs). For gnawing the heavy bones work like leg bones of large animals. The bison ribs I got at the pet store are real hard so they gnaw those. The rack of lamb from the grocery store were small so they ate those.

I have only used the beef marrow bones, but I think I might look into the rib bones. Just not sure if we have a butcher around that sells them cheap enough. I just can't seem to get up the nerve on the raw chicken bones yet.
