Default How I make my dog food

I get about 5KG of roo mince sometimes lamb or chicken (divide the 5 kg up into portions)
    pasta Spiral
    mixed diced vegtables
    olive oil
    sometimes egg
    a bit of galrlic granules
put all in a huge pot and freeze in containers!
not sure if its really healthy , but my fiancées fussy dog LOVES it , my pug also loved it!! (I just gave her less than my fiancées dog he needed fattening up she needed to lose weight!)
I figured that its better than canned dog food!

I'm no expert, so I can't say whether it's ideal or not. I do know that you should never feed a dog raw eggwhite, as it affects the dog's ability to absorb calcium (or something to that effect). So if you're giving raw eggs, perhaps use just the yolk. I'd also skip the pasta. Dogs don't need grain. Another spontaneous reaction is that it seems a bit low on calcium, but somebody with more knowledge than myself should say.

Have you looked in the forum under treats and homemade foods? I'd stay away from whole grains alot of dogs are allergic to grains.

Check out the recipe for Breakfast Slop in this thread (a couple of posts in).

Why and How I Feed Raw - updated July, 2010 (includes Breakfast Slop recipe)

That should give you some ideas of stuff to add to your mix.

I would not use pasta, myself. Dogs don't need grains and they can disagree with them. If you really want to add carbs, for some reason, then use potato. For calcium you could add in non fat plain yogurt or cottage cheese. Some dogs don't do well on dairy products, especially if made with cows milk so watch out and if there seem to be any problems you can try goats milk yogurt instead. Sardines are also good.

I think your dogs probably eat better than a majority of the dogs in this world :) Lots of people make their own dog food. I think your basic recipe is probably good and just needs a few tweaks here and there to be great.

How old are your dogs btw? I do know that with puppies, it's important to get the correct balance between calcium and phosphor. Too much calcium is bad for pups. Adult dogs just get rid of it, so it's not a big deal with them.
