Bojangles is 18 weeks old and I've decided to continue giving him what his breeder was feeding him (Costco's Kirkland Signature Premium Chicken, Rice and Vegetables) since he was having diarrhea with a brand called Whole Earth Farms. The breeder has told me that I should feed him 1 cup a day (twice a day). He also said that as he gets older, I should reduce his amount of food cause he won't be a puppy anymore and he wont need so much. On dog food bags, it says what you should feed your dog based on weight. Which should I follow? Is it different for pugs because of their short legs and obese problems? I just don't want to feed him too much or too little.
here's the analysis of that food:

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should just relax and get used to the idea.

All pugs are different. Just to give you an idea (because I remember wondering the same thing), my pug gets a little under l/2 cup twice a day and no treats. However, she is a very small pug compared to many I see. Also, neither of mine are active.
I do know when I first started feeding her and the bulldog I was astounded at how much they claimed they needed to be fed on the bag. I don't know if they are trying to sell dog food or what. However, there is no way either of mine eat anywhere near what dog food bags recommend.
Jennifer, and mama's princesses--
Tessie, a tiny, black diva,
Zoe- my slobberin' lovable english bulldog--with selective hearing
We feed Clyde 3/4 cup two times a day and he gets one small treat. But he doesn't always eat everything we give him, it depends on the day and his activity level.

As said....all pugs are different!!! Just like people....
I feed Ben, who just turned 6 months old, 1/2 cup of Solid Gold Wee Bits dry twice a day...with a teaspoon of canned. I stopped feeding him puppy as he was getting chunky at 4 months old..which is when I usually switch a pup to adult food. Had he been thin.......I would have kept him on it for longer.
I feed my older guys diet food..and only about 1/4 dry with the canned.....
I do give a LOT of cookies during the day....I give another brand of diet dog food as their cookies.
Thanks for all the replies. This is my first dog (and more importantly, my first pug) so I'm still learning lots of stuff. At his last vet visit, he weighed in at 11.3 pounds. I've been feeding him 1/3 cup twice a day. He's on adult dry food only, but he gets small biscuit treats when he does tricks and goes to the bathroom in appropriate areas. He's also taken a liking to oranges and bananas!
i tried feeding my pug 1/2 cup per feeding (twice a day) plus missing link in the morning and some boiled chicken or salmon or yoghurt (appromimately a teaspoon).
he gained weight...and it's easy to tell with him because of his girly waist line....it started to thicken.
he now gets 1/3 cup of dry, and i haven't changed the amounts of other foods i give him. he doesn't get treats, other than a bully stick....
i think the guides on these bags are guides....and cannot address the genetics, the metabolism, or the activity level of dogs....
