Default Quick & Easy D-I-Y High Value Treats

Just read this on another site and I tried it, real easy to do.

Hot Dogs... Whatever type you want to use... chicken, turkey, lite, beef, etc.

Slice them a little bit thicker than a nickel. Place them on some paper towels and a microwave safe plate. Microwave anywhere from 1 to 2 1/2 mins. depending on the power of your microwave.

I started with 1 min. Then I turned them over and cooked for another minute, flipped them again for 30 seconds. I have an 1100 watt microwave, but I used a larger hot dog, so your time will probably be less.

I made them yesterday and I used the 1/4 lb. Nathan's All Beef so they were larger, so I made small slice marks at 12, 3, 6 & 9 o'clock (down longways) so they would not bubble up in the center. I don't think you would have any problems with a regular or bun sized hot dog.

I think they turned out very well. My furbabies loved them. These can be used for a "High Value" treat for training. A lot of people used hot dogs, cheese or chicken (all cut up in small pieces for training) and now you wouldn't have the mushy mess of an non-dried out hot dog.

What a great idea! We use hot dog as a training treat at home and there is nothing worse than forgetting you have some left and discovering warm mushy hot dog pieces a week later in your coat pocket.

I used to do this lots!

I cut my "nickels" into quarters (or my "quarters" - coin shaped slices - into quarters) for cooking...

But beware - pups get thirsty..
