Also a first time pug owner... My fiance and I just moved into an apartment and he said to me that he would like a dog (he has owned one in the past and I never had anything but rodents and cats...)

We first looked at an english bulldog (my favorite) but it was 3 grand and of course, our apartment wouldnt allow it... so I asked the woman if they had any pugs and it was funny because I had already walked by those groups of cages and did not see her because she was just sitting down in the back looking depressed.

My fiance looked at her and at first was not impressed... he said to her- if you walk to the front of this cage, we will take you home! She came over and stood there then he said-- Lay down... and she did the head tilt then finally sat... then he said it again and she laid down with her nose against the cage. We took her out to play with her and she instantly lit up...

She rode home in my lap the entire way and was very behaved-- even with my fiance's crazy driving in our challenger srt8. lol

When we got home she pranced around like she owned the place and in 3 days earned her name- Jersey (officially Jersey Girl)... I am from NJ and thought the name was appropriate for her.

She is wonderful and I am trying to teach her tricks but that is another story.

Since I moved from NJ, I left 2 ferrets with my mom and dad (who pretty much have run of the house)... Besides the pug, I also have 2 betta fish (1 crowntail) and a guinea pig... She gets along great with the guinea pig and licks him but sometimes she gets too excited and I have to put the guinea pig away.

I suggest you start using the search function and read up on the ins and outs of pug ownership and care. Pugs do have special needs....first and foremost. If you leave your new baby outside in the heat she WILL die. Pugs absolutely cannot take extreme heat or cold. I wanted to tell you this right away, since it sounds like you got her from a pet store and not a breeder and I'm sure the breed info they gave you was very limited.

You will need to learn to care for her nose wrinkles and plan right now on feeding a high quality food because pugs have a tendency for skin problems and allergies. there eyes are also very vulnerable to injury and can be problematic so do a search and read some of the sticky topics in the health and care rooms.

These issues become nothing compared to the love, affection and devotion pugs give their people. they are truly one of the most loving, people-centered breeds there are.

Oh I dont let her go outside much- its too hot. She did have a fun time running in the yard when I went home to visit my parents on Sunday night... I have been using the internet to learn what I can.

Yes, it was an all puppy pet store that we got her at.

She is eating Royal Canin food... and I have a vitamin/high cal supplement for her as well.

I keep her face clean with water and a soft cloth or puppy eye wipes.
