We recently took in a 14 week old rescue pug, making a dream come true for my 8 year old daughter. We already have 3 cats, another daughter and this is my first dog ever. I'm sure I will have lots of questions as we embark on this adventure. Well, I already do - does anyone have a recommendation for the best kind of chew toy for my pup? We have a bunch of toys already but I would love to know what your pug's favorite is.
Mine love carrots! I use to give them the little baby peeled carrots. It's cheap and healthy and now we can't say the word Carrot outloud or they go running to the fridge. Also those little rope toys are always nice.
Welcome! Rope toys are good but you need to keep an eye on the condition of the toy as long strands can come loose which you don't want the pug swallowing.
As your pup will soon be getting to the teething stage you will want a good supply of various suitable toys and chews. A good soothing chew for a teething puppy is to get a washcloth, soak it in water, wring it out well, screw it up into a rope shape and freeze it. The cold gives some relief to sore gums.
Hello,
I also adopted a pug (which was supposed to be a 'babysitting' thing for a month but owner never came for her and has ceased contact), so now that it's 10 months later, I think I can assume that Lulu is my girl. Unfortunately I don't have much information on her at all and no previous experience with pugs. I believe she is close to being 2 years old. I also learned that she is not fixed (that was interesting). I plan to take her to the vet soon for a check up and to discuss having her fixed. She's so cute and happy. She only uses 3 legs. According the previous owner she was hit by a car when she was a puppy. She now holds that leg up and does not put pressure on it. It sure doesn't slow her down any or cause her any pain. She runs and plays a lot. It kind of adds to her cuteness.
I am looking for any advice on how to make this a great relationship. Unfortunately Lulu does pee and pooh in the house at times and I would really love for that to stop. She will also do it outside and really likes going outside. My guess is that she wasn't properly trained and it's confusing for her. She barks quite a bit too and is very 'nosey'....always watching and on guard....bit of a 'busy body'....lol. She snores like an old man! She burrows under my bed covers and sleeps with me. The wierdest thing she does has to do with licking people......all the time....everywhere. It's kind of like she feels the need to groom others. She doesn't bite or anything but it is kind of OCD. Doesn't stop me loving her though.
So, that's my Lulu. Any thoughts or suggetions are welcomed.
Peggy
Thanks for all the words of advice! I already ran out and got a nylabone for Walter (yes, that is the dog's name - not mine!) I can't wait to try some carrots to see if he likes them. I also can't beleive he is NOT teething yet - he's kind of a maniac for chewing.
And "hi" to you Lulus mom - I fon't have any advice for you since I too am so new to owning a pug, just sending you good luck!
Otis really likes any kind of big soft plush toys, in fact as soon as he gets one in his mouth he gets so excited that he starts humping the air frantically as he runs around with it. it's pretty funny because I don't think he understands yet what he's doing!
