Hi! I just got my first dog Friday--a pug now named Beatrice! Bea is 1 1/2 years old. She was in a bad situation--another dog was biting her all the time and she has a nasty skin infection under her jowls. I took her to my vet on Saturday, and had all the appropriate cultures etc done. They cleaned her skin wounds and debrided them and she is now on antibiotics and wearing an e-collar (which she hates). Beatrice is adorable, she loves people and is like a little love sponge. She is aggressive with other dogs though (not too surprising, since she had a bad experience with one). I plan to enroll her in obedience class, after she is spayed and receives her vaccines (the previous owners never did any of these things of course). I know I will be asking many questions, as I am a total novice with dogs (I am sure I have taken on more than I should as a newbie, but she is such a sweetie and I am willing to learn!). Thanks for having us here!
Thank you for taking Bea out of a bad situation!
I'm glad you're planning on taking her to an obedience class, that will help the two of you bond and also teach her to trust you. We love pictures here, if you get a chance, we'd love to see Bea!

I am so glad she has found a soft spot to land. the obedience classes may help with her fear/aggression toward other dogs as well. I have a new foster here who was torn open by pitbulls, used as a bait dog and he is gentle to other dogs, so it can be overcome.
Take care,
Lisa

Welcome and thank you for helping out a pug in need. They are the most loving dogs in the world and they so deserve to be loved right back. Don't worry about taking on too much. As long as you do your best and are willing to ask questions when you need to, I'm sure you will do just fine.
You will get a lot of great pug health and maintenance tips in this forum.
Obedience class sounds like a great idea! Just make sure you find a good trainer with modern, positive methods. If somebody talks about being a 'pack leader', or putting the dog in submission, run the other way. Pugs respond splendidly to training methods based on reinforcing positive behaviour. I recommend learing the clicker method, which is simply awesome.
