**UPDATE**
Instead of a little boy, I am getting a little girl. She is CKC registered, not really sure how I feel about this. but since Im not going to be breeding her I don't think it really matters. A little girl with lots of attitude Im sure. Her name will be Prim (and proper) and IM sure I will have tons of pictures soon.
Thank you to everyone for their help and suggestions.
Hi there.
I am getting a pug on Wednesday, finally! I am getting a fawn colored one. They are very tiny and the biggest parent is 19 lbs.
I have not had a dog since I was a child and have been out of this game for quite a while. We have 4 cats which is why we chose the pug. Plus there little smooshy faces are so irresistible.
So, as a soon to be new pug owner I would love some ideas and suggestions. For instance the best kind of food for these little overeaters. What should I use to make sure that his face is always nice and clean to prevent infection. Any special kinds of shampoo? Other things I should know?
I have done a lot of research, might seem silly to some, but I want to make sure that we are prepared and know the things to expect.
Thank you!
ALSO- I need some great boy names. I have a few in mind but some aren't going over so well with the guy. Quigley (Quigley Down Under- have movie) Dewey, Mr Puggles, Gibbers (I have a 5 year old who watches iCarly and he's the pudgy one) Pugsley, Ren (Ren and Stimpy, but the guy thinks it is too girly).

Are the cats de-clawed? Cat claws and puggies eyes can be a dangerous combo! Other than that, it sounds like you have done your research. If there is not infection in the pug roles on the face, a simple baby wipe that is unscented will do.
I would start with the roll cleaning from day one...it also would help to start the nails when it is okay to do so(don't know at what age is okay to clip). There is a sticky here on how to clean their rolls.

Welcome! Congratulations on your new baby! Our pug gets along great with our cat, but I do agree about the nails and pug eyes being an issue. Our cat is de-clawed, but soft paws are still a good idea for the back ones just in case!
There are some great threads in the 'Dog Foods, Treats, and Home-made Diets' sections. There are also some great websites out there that will rate the quality of food, which I found helpful.
Clearly Quigley is the best name! I mean, it is an awesome movie :) Your pug is guaranteed to be tough with that name! (I also like Gill, Matlock, and Charlie for a boy). Hope to see pictures!
Nano is: 9 months and 27 lbs :)
No, the cats are not declawed so that will have to be something I will keep an eye on. They play rough with each other all the time since 2 of the cats are younger. They are my wild child's. But they are only rough with each other when they are with us they are pretty calm until we rub their bellies then they think it is play time. So as long as the new guy doesn't try rub bin on their bellies I think we will be ok. But thank you that is something I will definitely have to keep an eye on.
I did read some of the threads about their rolls and some other things so I will keep looking in there.
Thank you guys!
Agree with the cats' claws and pug eyes. I would be very, very careful when introducing the puppy to the cats. Your pup will have no idea how to read the cats and is likely to try and play with them. I would not allow them to play with each other at all and never leave them together unsupervised. When puppy is older and calms down, you can re-evaluate the situation, but eye injuries are extremely common in pugs and they can be BAD. One of my pugs nearly lost her eye at 8 months. She was probably hurt when playing with one of the small puppies her then owners had.
As others have said, there are great tips on how to take care of the nose roll here. Also, read up on how to take care of eyes. I advise daily use of eye drops or eye gel from the start. They protect the eyes and keep them moist. Having a dog that's used to getting eye drops will also be hugely benefitial when he gets an eye injury, as he is very likely to at one point or another.
Good luck with your little guy!

Here she is! Pretty little Prim. So far the cats are so interested in her. They just keep staring at her. One of them was taking his paw and kept pushing on her and nudging on her. So far no claws have been out so I am keeping a close eye on them.
She had something going on with her eyes so I have to put some ointment in them 2-3 x's a day. they have a little cloudy look to them but the vet told her they would clear up.
She has outfits (only 2 sweaters to keep her warm outside) and I can tell she is gonna be a spoiled daddy's girl.
The kitties investigating.
(Sorry the pics are so huge, didn't take time and resize)
Thank you! She is such a doll baby. Jacob is just enamored with her and my son is in pieces over her.
I have a newish baby pug (since the summer, he's about 9 months now) and 4 cats. We haven't had any issues with eyes and claws, although my one cat has diabetes and can be swatty when his sugar is too high or low. My pug quickly learned how to behave around this cat, to protect himself. I do think it's important to keep cat's nails trimmed. This will keep nails more rounded and less dangerous. Please don't declaw your cats! I've had great luck with trimming all my cats for 15 years now. They also make claw caps (don't know what they are called) that you can apply to the nails to make them soft. Congrats on your new baby, she's really precious!
