    Default Help Please

When I first took my pug to the vet I was advised not to get her spayed because her mother and siblings did not do well under anesthesia. I was concerned because my neighbor has a large un neutered goldendoodle who is frequently in my yard. The vet told me it was a physical impossibility for her to become pregnant by the doodle so I never gave it a second thought.
But now after her last heat I found him mounting her in the yard. He was able to penetrate her and I wend after him with a garden hose and pulled them apart. I am now afraid that if he can penetrate her then why can't he get her pregnant. I am loosing my mind with worry. She has been showing some signs of pregnancy and I m not sure what to do. I obviously need to find a new vet, but I was wondering if any of you experienced breeders might know if she is able to come to term if she is pregnant and if she could what kind of problems I should expect.

Monday you need to shop for a new vet.
An unaltered male dog can most certainly get an unaltered female pregnant. Size is of little concern were there is determination. Browsing Craigslist you will find the most interesting combinations ... I saw Boxer/Dachsunds there today.
Pugs often have problems in delivering pug puppies and crossbred to a larger breed, I'd think the chances of a cesarean section are highly increased.
Good Luck on your quest for a new Vet ;-)

As soon as she is for sure out of season, spay her. Immediately. I have no doubt at all that she is now carrying puppies of undetermined number and large size. To save her life, spay her immediately.

I agree with Tall Grass. Please, to save this baby, have her spayed asap. By a different vet than the one who told you it was impossible for the doodle to impregnate her.

Please keep us in the loop, we do care! Hugs to you and your little one.

Please do a spay/abort on this little girl. Find a vet experienced with brachycephalic (smooshy-faced) breeds and make sure the anesthesia they us is appropriate and even more important that someone monitors them for the first 30 minutes to an hour after they are off the anesthesia.

These pups could kill your little girl and would definitely be adding to the mixed breed unwanted puppies.

I would even consider spaying her now, during the heat. There is a slightly higher risk of bleeding, but the risk she will be injured by an amorous male are higher.

    Take care,
    Lisa

I would write a letter of complaint to the clinic with a c.c. to the New Brunwick Veterinary Medical Association, the regulatory board. This is gross irresponsibility.

    Spay her, NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never mind if she is pregnant, abort it ASAP! Trying to have puppies sired by a dog of that size, very possibly could kill her.

Also, I would report that vet immediately, as he is a fool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take her straight to a vet (not the one who told you she could not get impregnated) and get some proper advice. If she is pregnant it really must be terminated. As you are going to have to risk anaesthesia to terminate (I imagine) she may as well be spayed at the same time. Risking a full term pregnancy with such a large breed as the father is asking for trouble in my opinion.

I am sorry you got such ridiculous advice from the vet.
