Anyone?
As a breeder, do you do home visits on prospective purchasers of your pups?

So I'm assuming by the deafening silence that you are not doing home visits? May I ask why not? I was drawing up a list of things to look for when buying from a responsible breeder and assumed this would be one of them. I figured a good breeder would be as diligent as a good rescue organization. Please tell me if/why I am wrong and why you don't do them. I'd like to get clarity.

I have not.......I try to get to know the person......through time. I have gone to visit afterward tho.
I don't breed, as you know, but neither breeder of my 2 wanted a home visit. In the case of Toddy, of course, I know his breeder personally so that is not really a valid example. In the case of Snifter his breeder lives 3 hours away from me.
I can see logistical difficulties in spending all the time necessary on rearing and socialising the litter adequately and then finding time to go out on home visits, especially if the prospective owner lives some distance away.
Perhaps somebody should set up a home visit service that breeders can use.

Good idea, Bella That's what some rescues do. We cross-post if the potential adopter is some distance away and we have no-one available. Most often the home visitor uses the rescue's own home evaluation form. I've done home visits for all sorts of breeds, and always get information up-front about specifics to the breed and to the individual dog that I should be looking for.
Thanks, Diane, for answering.

I do home visits for our rescue when needed....just have never done one for my own.
I don't breed, but the breeder we got Mimi from did a home visit with us and after the visits were over with we did play dates with Buster .. one at her place, one on neutral ground & one here. Don't know if that helps.
