Lucas,
I was really busy over past months and missed to read this. Though it is an old post, is it ever :?: , I must say sth. I completely agree with Dante, and thanks also to Jesse and Almandine for my relief. There will always be unethical people in one way or another and should be fought, that's where we come in, in our communities. But how can we fight all the injustice being done in the world? What a wonderful world it would be!!
Next, to become a reputable breeder first you have to be really dedicated, pationed and have the money. Alot of money! You can't go to work for eight hours or more, go on a bussines trip and be a breeder. You can be just a breeder. Breeding dogs, you will shout hurray and the end of the year if you just cover all the costs of breeding and showing. How do you become a reputable breeder if no one on Earth except your neighbours saw your dogs. Beside that you should obtain a breeding permmit. And all this just for getting it done right. I've never met someone who didn't want a healthy puppy. Then, a reputable breeder has to find a new HOME for the puppies. I believe that the audition for Miss World is nothing compared to those streams of people passing through your home with all sorts of ideas. But you keep smiling and looking for the right person. A good breeder cares for their dogs their entire life, just as does for the new owners. You are there for help any time of the day or night. Not only concerning dog matters. And much more, but I don't mean too make this thread too long. Why did I say all this? I grew up surrounded by beautiful and healthy dogs. My mother was a reputable breeder (not pugs) and I just described a part of my life. Most of the friends throuhout Europe I have are proud owners of her dogs or her line. Never even one was abondoned or abused in any way. And finally, when you pass the whole story, you don't even get the slightest idea of shipping your dog. You know, we imported several dogs from England, but first we several times went to England just to meet the breeders prior to taking our dog ourselves by car.
I always agree upon getting a dog from a reputable breeder, because even then something might go wrong. It just happened to be a case with my previous dog. She was a beautiful puppy, but at the age of six months some health problems started. I and my husband didn't want to give her back to breeder or anyone else in the world. She was OUR dog "for better and worse", and had wonderful 14 years of life with her. She needed medical care and we provided all the best for her till the very end. Even now I have a feeling that she was so greatful for being with us just as we are proud that she fulfilled our hearts. Especially my son's. She was eight monts old when he was born and she was the one who taught him the first steps and she was his "guardian angel".

Rija-
I think you express a sentiment that reveals that quality I would look for, if I was ever to share puppies I had raised with someone else...
Your commitment to your pet, "for better or worse", is, after all, the key ingredient for a loving relationship of any kind!![]()
Hi Rija,
That post was beautifully composed and your sentiments obviously came from your heart.
Ann
Lovely post Rija.
"For better or for worse" just sums it up nicely. I keep in touch with all the puppies who left me for new homes. It is a joy to catch up with them and it makes for a good night's sleep to know they are all loved, wherever they have gone in the country - I usually get to hear them snoring by their person's feet, or racing round in the lounge. It is just delightful!
Almandine and the gang - George, Dannika, Darwishi (Wish) and Pickle.... and who knows.... maybe a new little boy too...
Samson, Treacle, Maisie and the beautiful Onion at the Bridge. In our hearts forever.
The breeder I found has your same sentiments Rija. I am so glad I did my homework and researched Pugs for months. I have been to Wizard of Claws. They were the first Pug website I ever foundAll I can say is I wanted to take every poor puppy home and save them. I came out of there in tears.

Rija,
I am perplexed as to why you addressed your message to me. I honestly had a lot of difficulty understanding what you were trying to say, though I certainly did understand your statements about the dog you kept (I have done the same), in spite of health problems.
Are you asking me a question? Objecting to something I said? I really don't know what point you were making, and I suspect that we are dealing with a language barrier. If someone who understood the message better than I wouldn't mind relaying to me what was being said I would be most appreciative.

Lucas,
I thought Rija addressed her thoughts to you simply because you originated this thread, which she just found...because she just joined, from Croatia. Rija was just expressing her personal experiences and sentiments.
Ann
