Hi everyone I just wanted to know if anyone has gone through this situation before. I have a female pug, Lexie (1 year 3 months old) and for the past few weeks her tits have been getting larger and I was checking them the other day and milk came out, I got a little nervous since I do have a male pug, Luke, but when my female was in heat he was only 3 months old and she hasn't been in contact with any other male dogs, so I called the vet and they told me about false pregancy. I just don't know if there is anything I need to be concerend about, I know about mastis(sp?) and i am familiar with that. Does anyone know how long it will take her to dry up and the last few days she has been bleeding a little, not as much as when she is in heat, I wasn't sure if this had anything to do with the false pregnancy. If anyone has any information for me I would appreciate it, everyone is telling me not to be concerened but I can't help it, she is my baby! :) I am sure you guys can relate! Please give me any information you may have. Thank You! :)

A false pregnancy can last 60-80 days I believe...One thing that concerned me about your post was the fact that she is bleeding...How long ago was she in season? If it has been a while, this *could* be a sign of Pyometra, or pus in the uterus...which can be VERY serious!! Here is a bit of information on Pyometra, and I would suggest discussing the possibility with your vet. At Lexies age, it is not common, but still better safe than sorry...I almost lost one of my pugs to this when she was 7 yrs old.

PYOMETRA-- The term means pus in the uterus. Any time a veterinarian is presented with a dog or cat suffering from pyometra the condition is considered serious and immediate surgery is nearly always indicated. This pus formation in the uterus results from infection, hormone imbalance or mucous buildup inside the uterus. Most dogs and cats suffering from pyometra are presented because of loss of energy, increased thirst and poor appetite. Plus a good tip-off would be a foul smelling, purulent (means pus) vaginal discharge. Most of the cases of pyometra I've seen in dogs occurred about six weeks after the bitch's last heat cycle. They may not look it on the outside, but on the inside these dogs are really sick! If that swollen, enlarged uterus happens to rupture internally, the dog will rapidly go into endotoxic shock and whatever the veterinarian does may not be enough to save the dog. This is not meant to alarm you, just something that you should be aware of...hopefully Lexie is just fine and will be over this before you know it!

Thank You for the information, she was in heat I belive starting on July 8. I am a little concered about what you are talking about also, because every now and then she does have some clear discharge that does have a foul smell to it, but it isn't often. Should I be concerned? If I take her to my vet will they be able to tell if she does have this? Thanks again for your advice and I will keep you updated on what the vet says, I really hope it isn't what you described but I want to be safe and find out for sure! Thanks for your help and if anyone else has any information please let me know!

    Hi Luke and Lexie,

I would suggest a vet trip if there is smelly discharge of any kind. Hope she is OK!

Lexie went to the vet today, I feel so much better now, He said everything is perfectly normal and that she is just going through a false pregnancy and should be back to normal soon! Lexie didn't like the vet visit to much, but my other little guy, Luke had a great time. I took Luke along for a ride with us and he sat in the room and the vet kept feeding him treats so he probably can't wait to go back to see the vet! Anyways, Thank you for thinking about Lexie and me, I was a little worried, I am glad she is ok! :)

I am so glad to hear that all is well with Lexie...I thought of her all day long! Sounds like Luke had a great time LOL! My vet is bad about giving treats when we are there...all the while telling me that I have to make sure that they don't gain too much weight ROFL!!

I bet you will rest a bit easier tonight knowing that your sweet girl is fine...
