Wondering if someone can help with this question? We had a litter of pug babies 7 weeks ago, (5 males). We took them to the vet for their check today, all are doing great health wise. The vet told us on 3 of them she could only feel one testical down, on one she could feel neither, and on one she could feel two of them. She said it was probably due to their age and that as they get older they will both be there. Is anyone familiar with this? Do you think it is due to age or will they stay as they are? We want to keep one for a breeder and we are to sell one as a breeder. Not sure what is going on. Thank you.

    Hi Carla,

Usually if the testicles aren't fully descended by eight weeks of age they will probably stay that way. It is believed to be an inherited problem too, so be cautious in using the sire and dam of this litter again, especially together if they don't descend in the next week or so.

You will also want to neuter any that have undescended testicles as it can be a health risk too.

    Hope this helps,
    Jesse

My vet advised me that it can take considerably longer than the 8 weeks a previous poster mentioned. I suppose there all different theories. My guy's came down somewhere after 3 months. My vet said it can take longer than that however. I am not an authority on this issue...just passing on what I have heard.

Orion, my boxer, had "cryptdorcyn" (sp) testicles. This is where one of them dropped, but the other one was hidden. They didn't know where it was. They did surgery and found it in his intestines. Don't know how it got there. The vet said it was a hereditary thing. So, it must have come from somewhere in his line. The vet also told us (before the surgery) that if we didn't get him neutered she was going to turn us in for damaging a blood line.

Sheesh!! I mean, we never even thought about breeding him, even before we found out about his uh-hum, hidden trait. But c'mon, she didn't have to be so harsh. To be honest, at that time I was only 16 and didn't even know what all the blood line and other stuff meant.

Sounds a bit harsh Shelly! I once had a vet who would automatically suggest spaying every time I went in with Maisie - no matter what we went in for :-| . I often wondered if she did it to everyone, or whether she had a thing about pugs .
Almandine and the gang - George, Dannika, Darwishi (Wish) and Pickle.... and who knows.... maybe a new little boy too...

Okay, so this isn't about pugs, but it reminded me of something. When I was pregnant with my son, I brought up the topic of circumcision to my OB/GYN. It was my first child and I didn't know who, what, when, where or why. I thought my OB would be a good person to talk it over with. So, here I am 21 years old, all by myself getting my bi-weekly check up and I asked the question....

"Are you going to circumsize him, or does his pediatrician do that?"

Oh my gosh, you would have thought sh*% hit the fan. She scowled at me and said, "I absolutely will not touch that little baby. As far as I am concerned, any mother who even thinks about doing this should be convicted of assault and battery and put in prison".

    :!: :!: :!: WHAT :!: :!: :!:

I had no idea people felt that strongly about it. I mean I knew that some people don't believe in that, but as an OB, you would think she would be a little more diplomatic about it. Sheesh.

Needless to say, I fired her. So, here I was 8 months pregnant with no doctor. I was kind of freaking out. I was thinking, uh-oh what happens if I go into labor. Luckily I got a new doctor one week before I had my son. He was the nicest doctor and totally agreed with me about the circumsicion. If I ever have another one, I'll go back to him.

Turn you in for damaging a blood line? And to whom was this vet going to turn you in? The dog breeding police?? What a fanatic! Did you even mention breeding to her?

For such a comment to come from a doctor is beyond outrageous. Then again, we have all seen in this forum how strongly people react to the topic of breeding (not you were even interested in that topic at your vet visit!).
