Hi everyone, I just had a few questions, My female, Lexie just got out of having a false pregnancy and has been bleeding, my vet thought it might just be from the false pregnancy, since her heat isn't supposed to come until December/January, but she is done bleeding now and my male, Luke and her have been breeding since, so I am taking it as she was in heat all that time. My question now is what am I supposed to do up until she is going to have puppies? When will I know if she is reall bred or not? Should I take her for any check ups? I talked to my vet and he said if I wanted 3 weeks before she is due I can get a sonogram to see how many puppies she has and after the puppies arrive to give her some supplements while she is lactaing. It seems to simple, I was just wondering if there is anything else I am supposed to be doing the next 63 days! If anyone has any information for me about what I need to know, I want to do things right!

    Thanks,
    Jen

    Hi Jen,

I'm a little confused. Did they actually tie, when you say they've been breeding? How old is she?

The first thing I would do is find a vet who will be available on call 24 hours a day in case she needs a c section. Make sure this vet has experience with pugs, or bulldogs. You'll need to make sure you're with her at all times from day 58 on. Do you know the dates they bred? because that's when you need to base her whelping date on.

Hi Jesse, Sorry to confuse you. Yes, they have locked together at least 4 times that I have seen, but only for a few minutes, when I lived with my parents we had boston terriors and when they would breed, they would lock together for 10 minutes or so, does it matter how long they stay locked together? Lexie is 1 year and 6 months, Luke is 10 months old.

I am lucky, my vet actually has 3 pugs of his own and is very good with them, I will have to make sure he is on call when she is close to having the puppies just in case. The first time they bred was on Oct 31, so I figured I should be expected puppies anywhere from Dec 28 on.

How long until she will start showing signs of being bred? I have been around animals all my life, I don't know why I am so concerned with Lexie, I just don't want anything to happen to her or the puppies.

If you have any advice let me know!

    Thanks,
    Jen

Here's a really good link. I know I have others saved in my favorites, but I just need to find them.

Yes, make certain you have a vet who is experienced with c sections on call that week. That's awfully close to Christmas/New years and a lot of offices close during that week.
