Had a call from a lady said, she can get a pug for $150.00 from anonther state : well then I am sorry but I can"t sell mine for that-----she said they should be the same. I told her sorry I am not wallmart and will not match prices. She asked what do you mean by you screen buyers! We ask a couple of questions...what are your intentions with the pups ...do you have other annimals ...do you have kids !!!!!!She said if she came with the money I was asking,we had to sell to her. I would not sell this lady a hampster! She said we were discriminating
We will keep our last pups

Most GOOD breeders, screen potential owners, and pug prces range from a couple hundred dollars to the thousands depending on the supply in certain parts of the country.
It sounds like you are definitely doing the right thing. I know of some breeders who follow their puppies in their new homes thru-out their lives via emails, chat groups and pictures.

People amaze me. I just don't get why someone wouldn't expect a breeder to ask them some questions. I mean those are all relevant questions, it's not like you asked for a copy of her income taxes!

This goes to show she views these puppies as property, not pets. She sounds desperate to get a puppy and will do anything to do so.

I must have missed this post before :-| .
Bravo pugdad! It really ticks me off when people view a puppy like a pound of bacon! How many puppies did you end up keeping?
Almandine and the gang - George, Dannika, Darwishi (Wish) and Pickle.... and who knows.... maybe a new little boy too...
Samson, Treacle, Maisie and the beautiful Onion at the Bridge. In our hearts forever.
Good for you Dave.
My best friend is a pug breeder and on one deal she had made a commitment to sell one of her pups to this guy and 2 days before he was going to come and get the dog, he started firing off emails trying to get her to come down on the price, he was going to trade her a new cell phone, all this crazy negotiating stuff.
After 3 or 4 stupid emails back and forth she sent him and email saying that she had changed her mind and would not sell him the puppy. she told him that his behavior over the past few hours told her that he was not worthy of her puppy. Her puppies are like family members and are not thought of as property or negotiating items.
If he was willing to think of the puppy as that insignificant she would not place a puppy with him. Guess what, he emailed her for 3 days begging her to sell him the puppy. He did not get that puppy. She held her ground and refused to sell it to him.
I'm glad you did that Dave. I can't tell you how many of her puppy owners we keep in contact with. We get pictures, updates, questions, you name it. We love keeping up with them.
One of our favorite lines to use on people is the "you get what you pay for" and follow it up with you either pay me a little more now for a genetically sound puppy or you pay for the next 10-15 years and make a veterinarian much wealthier. When you look at it like that, that extra few hundred dollars is a drop in the bucket compared to what they could end up spending on a puppy who has chronic problems because of irresponsible breeding.
