Isn't one year old rather late for a first heat? I know very little about these things, but my Kimmy came into heat at 5 months, 2 weeks before she was due to be spayed.

Also, just curious as to why you want to breed your pugs?

No this is not late. If a bitch does not come into heat until 11-13 months old, most likely they will have 10-12 month heat cycles instead of 6 months heat cycles. I am blessed with 2 girls that come every 10 months (Ava and Mariah, and they come in just days from each other)...It is a great thing. It is also causes less scar tissue in their uterus. It is hard on the girls to go in every 6 months. It is like they are coming out and going in with about 2-3 months break. I would take a once a year bitch anyday!

My sister had an unfixed female cocker spaniel, and she would bleed for about 10 days, other than that I don't know much about it. I'd have the vet giver her a check just to be sure that she's okay!
