My Emmy had grey skin for the longest time. I asked the vet about it and he also said exposure from the air and maybe a little yeast on her skin too.
We changed to a raw diet and use a special shampoo and she is nice and pink again.
There is not a black pug in her pedigree at all.

Freddie's skin is back to puppy pink - after a complete change in diet.

Mochi's changes all the time. I say it's like a mood ring, depending on what mood she's in. Seems to me, it's the temp & if she's itchy or not. I think. Olive's skins is very light.

Ideally fawn pugs should have pink skin and black pugs whitish skin.

Splotches, darkness and blackness are usually due to underlying issues, metabolic, dietary, immune, yeast, etc. and will change as the health and diet of the dog change.

I use the skin color as a barometer of my dog's health. It doesn't change fast, but a general lightening means I'm heading in the right directio and a darkening means I need to reevaluate and pay more attention. Kobe had black skin when we got him a year ago, now it is pink with some dark spots. When we got Peaches she was being fed raw and had a pure pink belley, we switched her to Natural Balance and it eventually went gray, now we have switched to Ziwipeak and it is almost pink again.

    Take care,

Someone has to ask, what color does it change to when Peaches is on her preferred duck diet?

Peaches says that when she is allowed to hunt and consume her preferred prey of duckling, kitten and housefly raw and in total, her belly is the purest pearly pink, however the beaks cause constipation.

shylahs skin was pink when we first got her.
now it seems to be darker. more of a darkish grey color.
i noticed it about a week or so after we switched her from the food she was eating at the petstore, to iams. then i did my research on iams .. pfft. switched her to acana wild prairies.
    still a darkish color.
    so this is interesting.
worries me though. thinking she has something wrong since it's suppose to be pink.
