I have been in a dog park with one of my pugs with large dogs present on only two occasions, and on both of them, one of my pugs was rolled and came close to being seriously hurt.
Many people with pugs will not take them in parks where there are large dogs present just because of the threat of injury to the pugs. It may be fun for your big dog, but if you are advertising for an event for PUGS, looking at their wellbeing should be first and foremost. Remember, if a pug gets injured at any of these events, they will be looking to you....

I take Frank to the dog park regardless if it has a small dog area or not. I've never had any problems and we go two three times a weekend, and multiple times during the week when it cools off. I think people need to be smart about how their dogs act at the dog park and need to be responsible if something happens.
You have been very lucky. Many other people have not been as lucky. I have been organizing pug get-togethers for more than 14 years and we don't even allow pug mixes larger than 35 lbs. into our events. When you are socializing with other people, you don't have your attention on the dogs 100% of the time and it only takes a split second for a snap of a large jaw to snag an eye or worse.
I have heard far too many horror stories to not be overly cautious for the care and safety of the pugs around me.

Like I said no other dogs will be at this dog park when we go there only the ones we invite. And my big dog is not a threat to other people's dogs. He is well socialized and LIVES with my pug yuki. He is going to be 6 this month he is really mellow and most of the time just hangs out by my side while the pugs run around. ^_^
Our pug meetup doesn't allow other dogs, otherwise I would take Gracie-Pants with me (my chow mix). She loves playing with other dogs. Some people somehow get in with their frenchies and sometimes a rat terrier or something comes in.
When I see someone's dog acting funny at the dog park I always say something...but then again I say stuff to people that don't like what they always hear... if I see a dog with runny stool I will march over to someone and definitely tell them and ask if they have their dogs on heartworm prevention ...(ok, I know i'm a bit crazy, but that's ok)...to make sure they have some sort of prevention against some parasites at least. I have a hard time censoring myself when it comes to dogs. At work I see many stupid/preventable things and when I'm outside of work I still try to help people and educate or try to get people thinking.
