    Default Inverted Eyelashes?

My vet briefly mentioned that Rupert's eyelashes are growing inward and suggested he get surgery. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with their pugs having this. How serious is it, and is surgery really necessary? Do his eyes bother him because of this? I imagine they would but he seems perfect. Just curious.

I would opt for the surgery as soon as possible, inverted eyelashes can do a lot of damage rubbing against the cornea and can cause Pigmentary Keratitis.... which leads to using very expensive ointment several time a day, forever.

If you want a second opinion go to a Vet Opthalmologist.

Oh no! He is almost two years old and I would guess this has been an issue since birth. Now I'm kind of worried. I think his eyes do look cloudy in comparison to Kage's, but the vet didn't seem to think it was an issue. How much does the surgery cost? I'm going through a rough patch financially.

I also agree with Rosiepug. Take him to see a Vet Opthalmologist. You don't want to mess around with his eyes. My Suli's eye lids never formed properly and after three years of asking my regular vet about this.. he finally said to take her to see a specialist... My lil girl ended up having surgery, lost some vision and will be on eye meds the rest of her life. Needless to say, we have switched vets.

I know it's not the same surgery, but in 2004 to have her eye lids done was a bit over $2000. But her eye meds run about $35 /tube and she uses one tube per month.

Go for a consult so at least you know what you are looking at, health wise and price wise.

Our 12 year old girl has eyelashes that rub her eyes, and so she has gotten "Puralube" eye ointment ($4-$8/tube/month), twice a day (for life), and visits her Ophthalmologist every six months, for many years.

In addition to the great advice above, here are a couple resources to check out:

    Eyelid abnormalities

    ACVO Home Page
    Locate an ophthalmologist

With their big, beautiful, but very exposed eyes, it's always better to check out all concerns immediately.

I agree with the info you've been given.

It's better to check than to let eyes go.

You can use Care Credit if things are tight for you. You then have a certain amount of months to pay it off without a finance charge...but if it's not paid off you pay on the total initial charge.
