The other side of that argument is "with odds like that would you leave your child behind to be adopted by others"?
It is a thorny question, certainly, and I hope I am never in a position to have to consider it. I would certainly be taking a boat rather than a plane if at all possible.

I've cargoed through Lufthansa as well. I don't have a choice to go on the plane- I was flying out a 200 lb that's obviously too big to be on a plane and a 15 lb show dog that is somewhat claustrophobic and can't be put into a small aviation sized bag/box. They have been pretty on it about putting them into a cart and off into the building/into the plane fast. Flew them about 10 or so times and no issues.

RIP our heart, our little monkey girl.
As I understand it, your dog is far more at risk of dieing on the car ride to and from the airport than during a flight, but nonetheless, if you can fly your dog in the passenger cabin that's ideal. If you can afford special pet only airlines to transport your dog, wonderful, but I would rather see dogs go cargo than be left behind.
Take care,
Lisa

negligent? it would be negligent to leave them behind if we are told we have to move. guess what? A LOT of service members do that. german shelters do no longer adopt to US service members because the just leave the pets behind.
in almost 6 years of marriage we have been separated for about 3 years of and on. it's not an option for him to do another unaccompanied tour. currently hubby is stationed in korea. he just left last week again after a 4 week leave. he was gone 8 month. we don't know if there are any more deployments in our future. i'm pretty sure there are.
tell me what we are supposed to do??? i really would like to know.
we did and will continue to do our research until the time comes.
as to the odds... first my children don't have to be in a crate.... my little "pigs" do.
my oldest will turn 19 next week. she has her DL. should she not be allowed to drive, because the risk of her getting injured in an accident is much higher compared to me (i'm old ;) )?
It bothers me that you keep referring to your pugs as "pigs"
I find that a little disrespectful......

my oldest pug (4) is a female named Piggy
our little boy was named Porky. we lost him july2, 2009 after an emergency surgery. very sad day for the family
piggy was lonely and now she has a new friend named tuggy.
my daughter named piggy LONG before we ever got her due to the little pig tail.
to me it's not disrespectful, but adoration![]()
ok I'll accept that.....

Now whoa up a minute here. It is my understanding that you are married into the service, and your husband has sworn to protect the constitution with his life's blood. My son went through basic at Leonard Wood, and my father after four years overseas building victory with his Army Engineers/352 was released from active service at Leonard Wood. Korea is not a wonderful duty station, and you are planning ahead to hold your family together. Let me tell you a story---my mother once shipped a bitch from San Diego Lindbergh Field to Hollywood, Fla. The crate was returned in due time air freight and the airline called angry that the crate was full of dead dog. Throwing on her jacket, she and I drove to the airport to find the crate was not full of dead dog, but stuffed RCA Victor display flopped over on its back with its paws in the air. A tempest in a teapot. You have encountered a tempest in a teapot here, you are going to have to fly and I am confident that your dogs won't be abandoned or CraigsListed--rather have a good vet workup and be flown home with the best plans for their safety you can muster. The life of a service wife is hard, lonely and challenging. Thank you for your husband's dedication and thank you for continuing to keep the home fires burning.
