    Default Potty Question

So I actually have poop question. Charlie is now 5 months old and we've had him on like 3 different foods - the first was Beneful which we knew we didn't want him on, then Solid Gold, which we didn't have a problem with, but his poop didn't improve and now we're on Orijen. So we always introduce the food slowly over a week and such...and he eats pumpkin and yogourt, but his poop is still soft and his gas is ridiculously smelly - he's quite the room clearer. My friend has a cocker spaniel who has the most ridiculously solid poop and she's on science diet! So i was just wondering if Pugs poop does become quite solid so I should again start looking for another food (we will go through this bag to ensure Charlie has enough time to adjust to it), or this just a lost cause? Just wondering - any advice would be great!

Feeding Raw produces firm stools due to the bone in the diet. Royal Canin Indoor produces low volume and low odour stools and Almo Natural venison and Rice produces firm stools. Have you had your pugs stools tested for giardia?

"Ridiculously Solid" is much more troublesome. Tells me the dog is not hydrated.
How much pumpkin &/or yogurt? The gut may be getting too much fiber, which draws fluid in.
    What does the vet say?

I was also told raw... helps with gas as well (apparently)! I'm trying it out. Elsa is loose, but with all the changes in her life (only got her Friday) I'm not too worried. I know she had some raw when with my sister (the breeder) but is now on it fully.

I used to feed my border collie raw and it definately helps with the clearing up!!! Smaller and firmer makes happy mummy!! Cos at the moment slimy is just too gross.

Hope you find something that suits soon

Thanks for the responses! Yep Jacqueline we have - when we first got him he some sort of parasite and Giardia, luckily after the first round of medication the parasite was gone and after the second the Giardia, although we will be getting him tested regularly until he's 1. The Vet said based on the lifestyle of a puppy (the fact that he loves to get his nose into everything) we can do it more frequently just to be safe...so I'm hoping its not a return of that! Hmm, maybe we will have to look into those kibbles you've mentioned...or raw...

Anne - We usually give him one heaping tablespoon of pumpkin with his dinner and 1 or 2 frozen cubes of yogourt a day...

lol yep JJ it makes Mommy and Daddy very unhappy - Daddy more so, as he does most of the poopy pick up!
