    Default Food Allergy Symptoms?

How long does it take for food allergy symptoms to appear? I switched Rosey to Canidae a while back...I think she's on her 4th bag (5 lbs size)....Lately she's been licking her paws constantly, had bad gas, and is pooping and having more accidents lately.....She's been in to the vet twice in the last month. The first time I came home from work and she had thrown up twice and was sitting on the couch trembling. The vet thought it could be an upset stomach or pain like a pinched nerve. The same thing happened again last weekend. Now she threw up again this morning. Otherwise, she acts OK....just a little more subdued than normal.

What are food allergy symptoms? Does this sound like a dog with a food allergy? I'm thinking about putting her on California Natural for something to help...Thanks for any advice...

Food allergies and sensitivities are tricky to pinpoint. What were you feeding before Canidae? Any problems with it? How long after switching did the problems begin? Some dogs show allergic reactions sooner....some longer. But a food allergy is not what I would be looking for first with those symptoms...has the vet done a full blood and urine workup? Have they checked for worms? Obstructions? Maybe a mild pancreatitis or liver problems?

I hope you get it all sorted out soon and whatever it is is not serious and easily remedied.

    Take care,

Yes, the vet has done blood and urine work-ups and very thorough exams. I was giving her Nature's Recipe food and she didn't have any gastrointestinal symptoms....just anal gland issues. I was trying a new food to see if it would help with that....obviously no such luck.

Obviously it would be advisable to change food and see if the symptoms stop.

I've always heard at least 90 days once you switch.

I'm not sure about food allergies specifically but i know that our pug used to lick his feet constantly, and for short term relief regular old benadryl works pretty well. For long term relief we had our vet do a full allergy workup and he is now on regular allergy injections. They are not too expensive and easy to administer at home. have you considered a full allergy workup so you know specifically what kind of foods to look for or avoid. It turns out that our pug is actually allergic to "human" dander, so our little guy is allergic to us. The shots really help though. And fish oil for the skin is working great as well.
