Petey had a very significant ear infection last fall that seemed to go on forever. Not sure if the antibiotics etc he was given at some point added to it as his ears turned beet red and peeled as if sunburned! This was worse in right ear than other. Yesterday I took him to vet for ear cleaning and nail clipping and they found his right ear with the beginning of yet another infection so they packed it and sent us home. My question is this, does it not seem odd this is always in one ear and if it was an allergy of some sort, not infections, would it not be in both? Any ideas are helpful. Due to my other pug requiring Hills Prescription C/D, which they both have to eat there is not changing out the food.
Pugs with narrow ear canals are more prone to infection, according to my vet, and it is entirely possible for the ear canals to differ in size. My Toddy's do.

Yes, as Snifter mentioned, structural anomalies can predispose a dog to infection...as can food allergies and you may be dealing with both.

thanks, had not thought of that angle at all so possible it is just an issue with one ear.
