    Default pug has snorting fits

1st time pug owners.. Mikey occasionally has fits of snorting, we try to go by him to calm him down and he runs from us. he can breathe, but these fits scare us a little.
    is this normal for pugs?

Does it look and sound something like these? If so, yes, it's disturbing but perfectly normal.

That is exactly what it is!! Is this painful and something to worry about? What should we do to help him stop?

Reverse sneezing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you watch that first video, you see the owner block the pug's nostrils until he opens his mouth to breathe, that often stops them.

Some people swear by blowing into their nose, but it doesn't help mine and they HATE it.

it helps Louie when I blow gently in his face
i'll have to try to block the nostrils next time to see how that works

Leto lets me pinch his nose -- sometimes it restarts again but at least it lets him catch his breath. We just keep pinching till it stops.

Dexter reverse sneezed several times a day when we first got him from the shelter. Now we only hear it a couple of times a week.

Typically it happens when coming back inside from the cold, around strong fragrances, or anything else that typically makes ME sneeze or my nose drip.

We don't attempt to stop it because the episodes don't last more than a few seconds.

I find that gently stroking the throat can help. But as they tend to want to get away from you (at least mine do) and I don't want to increase any stress it may already be causing I don't push any physical contact but just stay nearby and speak to them in a calm voice.
