    Default Daisy

Our Daisy who is 9 is starting to not have a lot of control with her back legs and her tail isn't up most of the time. She doesnt appear to be in pain just doesnt walk too well. We took her to the Vet where they did the x-rays and such and says her hips are ok and no apparent skeletal issues. She has experienced no trauma that we are aware of. The Doctor gave her some steroids and pain stuff to try with no effect, and telling us it may just be getting old and nerve deterioration. This has been going on for about a month. We are concerned that it won't get any better and maybe get worse. Any thoughts would be welcome.

Sorry your old gal isnt getting around too well lately. If it gets really bad maybe one of those cart things would help her out. Like a wheelchair for a dog. I don't have a link, sure someone around here does though.

I don't want to scare you...but it could be a stenosis.... My Dreamer had it....and now, I believe that Isis (who is not related) has it also. It took a mylogram and a CAT scan to diagnosed Dreamer. I'm not doing that with Isis as there's nothing to be done for it! I do take her to a chiro...and she gets cold laser treatments which seem to be helping!

Seeing me wrong on your girl and her doing great!!!!

Pugs are prone to spinal issues and this is more than likely a prolapsed disc pressing on the spinal cord. Surgery can be an option, but an MRI is needed to tell the whole tale, or at least a myelogram. X-rays have limited value in these situations. Surgery doesn't usually produce miraculous "hallelujah" moments with these conditions, but a small improvement can be seen. The most important result of surgery is to stop the deterioration or at least slow it down considerably. More than likely this decline has been happening for some time, it's just now reached a point where you are noticing it. Chronic problems have worse outcomes than acute ones, as the damage has been increasing over a long period. A consultation with a specialist is called for. Disabled Pugs are high maintenance, but they are worth the effort. Hope you get some answers.
