maybe some of those artificial tears could be added. Seems like pugs need those fairly often from what ive read around here.

    Adding to the list above:

Get some prescription antibiotic eye drops (Gentamycin or similar), prednisone and tramadol. Really good to have around. Having pred on hand has saved Cleo's life twice. However you must learn how and when to use these products.

Baby aspirin, Hydrogen Peroxide and large syringe (for inducing vomiting), Activated charcoal (for absorbing caustic poisons), Vetericyn spray/wash, Vetericyn eye gel, Topical benadryl spray. Blood stop powder. Instant cold packs, Immodium, Doggie Diapers, tweezers, Duct tape and plenty of large and small wound dressing pads. Duct tape is a great emergency splint and compression bandage, but it will pull hair out.

Of all of these things, the one I most use is Vetericyn spray.

    Take care,

Rather than lots of bandages, feminine menstrual pads are clean and individually wrapped, good for absorbency and a suitable size for lots of wounds. (Did you know one heavy flow pad is the right size to wrap almost exactly around a horses' lower leg?) I favour good old fashioned Kotex or Stayfree "thins" with cottony cover and heavy cotton stuffing. Ultra thins and anything with wings doesn't work as well. Poise pads are really good too. The ones that aren't shaped. Just place over wound and vetwrap in place.

Also lots of Vetwrap: because it's self adhesive several layers will also make a splint and won't pull out hair.

    Also: baby liquid benadryl.

    Good thread Pat!!!!

ps What about a pug muzzle, in case puggie is so scared s/he lashes out??? I've often wondered....

I was actually just wondering about this as well. Summer's coming up and we go camping a lot. This is a great thread!

Depending on where you live you might also want a snake bite kit. Where we live we have TONS of rattlesnakes so we have a couple snake bite kits (one for the pugs and one for us).
I've also heard that an oven mitt is a good idea to protect yourself if puggy gets scared and tries to bite you.

haha I didn't think about how funny that would be! I think putting it on the dog's head would only make the situation worse lol

For those who go outdoors a lot in rattlesnake areas, there is a ratlesnake vaccine, but I don't know much about it.

some really good suggestions here on the thread

a note here on Benedryl. I had a boston one time that got bitten by a bug camping...and the benedryl did nothing to help her FAST. called the vet where we were and he was out on a call helping a bear of all things. we did not have time to get her to the vet in time for the swelling...45 minute drive and her breathing was really bad and swollen muzzle. the vet said to use an adult clorotripilon in a pinch and we had some on hand...and it did work. just another thought for an emergency if needed.

I also have packed extra clippers in there too
only because I seen to loose my nail clippers for the dogs on occasion
so always have an extra pair in the emergency kit as well
also have a few extra warm blankets if needed for the dogs too
I bought a couple of cheap HOODIES...if the power goes out as well here..they do not fit that well but in a pinch in the cold they work great.
