Default BENETFITS of COCONUT OIL for ALL DOGS and PEOPLE alike...article..on it

here is an excerpt from an article in the Whole Dog Journal and what made me want to try it:

    • Reduces the risk of cancer and other degenerative conditions
    • Improves cholesterol levels and helps fight heart disease
    • Improves digestion and nutrient absorption
    • Heals digestive disorders like Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, and colitis
    • Contains powerful antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal agents that prevent infection and disease
    • Relieves arthritis
    • Prevents and treats yeast and fungal infections, including thrush and candidiasis
    • Prevents and treats viral infections, including herpes, measles, and the flu
    • Helps balance the body’s metabolism and hormones
    • Promotes normal thyroid function
    • Helps prevent or control diabetes
    • Rejuvenates the skin and protects against skin cancer, age spots, acne, and other blemishes
    • Helps prevent osteoporosis
    • Reduces allergic reactions
    • Supplies fewer calories than other fats.

Applied topically, its boosters say that coconut oil also does the following:
    • Disinfects cuts
    • Promotes wound healing
    • Improves skin health and hair condition
    • Deodorizes whatever it touches (some people brush their teeth with it or use it as an underarm deodorant)
    • Clears up warts, moles, psoriasis, eczema, dandruff, precancerous lesions, athlete’s foot, jock itch, diaper rash,
ringworm, vaginal yeast infections, and toenail fungus.

All of this is excellent news for people and their dogs, for most of coconut oil’s human benefits are shared by canines.
And dogs love the taste, which makes feeding coconut oil and other coconut products easy and pleasant.

It is a medium chained fatty acid, (MCT) in comparison to a Long chained fatty acid (LCT) like other vegetable oils. LCTs are difficult to break down and stored as fat. MCTs (coconut oil) is eaily digested and spent immediatly.

Coconut oil also has tons of healing properties, it is convereted to a lauric acid, which provides anti viral, anit bacterial, and anti protozoa properties.

Coconut oil helps balance out our Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio. Vegetable oils are high in omega 6, which throws us all of balance, creating an insufficient Omega 3 level, leading to Chronic Degenerative Diseases.

You can get some from Nutiva, DrBronners.com, Mercola.com. I use it for cooking. I'll give the dogs scrambled eggs cooked in coconut oil. Dr Becker DVM recommends 1 teaspoon per 10-20 pounds per day. It does have lots of calories so I only do it 2-3 times a week. It is solid at room temp so you can warm it up and drizzle it on the kibble if you like. But since I give my dogs eggs, that's how they normally get it.

Dr. Bonners is what I got here too
mainly for the nose but plan on adding to their food too
    lots of benefits
one teaspoon is all they need......
I will likely use one half teaspoon per dog and do it everyday here..
and one full teaspoon full for the bulldogs........they can use the calories better then the pugs.lol

Be careful with coconut oil if you have sensitivites or allergies to latex.

I am deathly allergic to coconut in all forms, bananas, and latex. Some folks with those allergies also react to avocados and kiwi.

Bella the bulldog will eat it off the spoon.......gus spit across the room..lol so will do the same for him and add it to his food
it turns to liquid really fast if you just leave it out at room temperature.....make sure to get the raw coconut oil that is all oil..

I think I'm going to buy some for myself and Beefy. Since he's struggling with yeast issues should I avoid putting it on his belly where all the nasty yeasty areas are, I just don't want it to clog his pore even more and his belly already feels greasy and gross from the yeast.

I would think if he took it internally it would be as much of benefit or applied right to the spot....

start slowly and put it on top of his food........maybe a quarter teaspoon each meal and then work your way up to a half teaspon daily..
