Sunny had a sneezing attack in the middle of the night that woke me up. She often sneezes randomly but this time she was trying to sneeze for a while. I checked and there was no blood or discharge and after she stopped she seemed fine. This morning she was sneeze free and eating and acting completely normal. Should I just keep an eye out or does this necessitate a vet visit (argh she was just there on Sat on an unrelated matter)? Sunny suffers from seasonal allergies and she hasn't been in any wild fields or anywhere out of the ordinary. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Kelev has done that. Something gets up their nose. Give a benadryl. If it doesn't settle ...then take them in!
Thanks! That's what I was thinking too. I gave her a benadryl and she seems fine so far so I'll continue to keep an eye on her too.
I don't think it's anything to be unduly concerned about if it is just an isolated incident and did not go on for ages.

Unless you are keen to see that your vet has a wonderful Xmas, I would not bring her in unless it becomes suddenly very frequent or involves heavy nasal discharge or blood. As Diane said, a little Benadryl should do it. Sometimes an abrupt change in temperature, especially from warm to cold can bring on a sneezing, reverse sneeze or coughing fit.
Take care,
Lisa

Thanks for the advice! As much as I love my vet, I do not want to spend even more there! Sunny's completely fine now so I guess that was just a random sneezing fit. The temperature has dropped a lot recently, so that may be it. Hopefully it'll be just gentle wake-up sneezes in my face from now on, and no more sneezing fits!
when you say Benedryl, is this medicine or a tablet in food?

Benadryl in the US can be given to dogs, but the kind in the UK is not safe for dogs. I usually give Sunny benadryl, or half a zyrtec for her seasonal allergies (upon vet's instructions). I usually wrap it in a jerky treat and then as I feed it to her quickly I dangle a second treat with my other hand for her to see. She's so intent on getting both treats, she quickly swallows the first one with the pill (hehe).
