I know most of you know all about the problems pugs have with their dry skin. I did not since this is my first little pug. I checked everything about pugs when I decided to adopt my boy but they just said they are prone to dry skin, no biggie right? Wrong. My boy was itching day and night he was suffering so much it broke my heart. I could not sleep he would wake me up every few minutes all night long I was getting sick. I could not banish him from my room I felt bad. I took him to the vet numerous times looking for an answer but nothing worked. I was getting ready to find a specialist for his “allergies” until I met this young lady who loved and raised pugs she said “for her whole life”
She stopped me so she could meet my boy and we talked, well to make this short she noticed the sore on his head where the fur was gone and she just said, “oh he has dry skin” Just that simple, well we talked and I was given the solution that no vet or anyone on any forum (not here) could not.
So for the newbies like me if your dog is scratching all day and night and you cannot figure out why, here is what you should try.
For a few days give your baby 1-2 tablespoons of a good virgin olive oil, sprinkle it on their food or as I do, I sprinkle his vitamins on a plate and drizzle the oil over it, I did this twice the first day ( watch for loose stools be careful not to give too much) I slept the entire night which meant he did too. It is now the third day and he has only scratched a few times, and I am sleeping all night. I rubbed a little oil directly onto the skin near his ribs and that helped also. I was also told to get a good shampoo that is a combination shampoo and conditioner look for something with oatmeal.
If this helps just one doggie I will be very happy. Today I am one very happy puggie mom and I have one very happy content Buddy.

Organic coconut oil is good for them too. BENETFITS of COCONUT OIL for ALL DOGS and PEOPLE alike...article..on it
I scramble eggs in coconut oil and give it to the dogs. Good for their skin, intestines, is antifungal, good for IBD, pancreatitis...
Phoebe was having some problems with itching due to elemental allergies and my vet recommended soaking her in a colloidal oatmeal bath. She said to just let her soak in it for about 10 minutes really rubbing the water into her skin and stirring up the bottom of the tub making sure the oatmeal is well mixed. Then dry her off. No risning. It seemed to help her out a lot. I use earthbath shampoo and also their conditioner. Both have oatmeal and all natural ingredients. I'm glad Buddy is doing so well and I hope it continues to work!

It does not have an effect on my boy, I give it to him every morning, and does he love it.
Thanks that is interesting I did not k now it elped that mouch in so many ways I will continue but it did not seem to effect his skin, but who knows it may have and if I had stopped it may have been worse. Yikes! B ut now I do not have to melt it to mix witht he vitamins I can now just give him a lump since I use the EVO
thank you, I did buy a moisturizing shampoo and it contains Cocoa Butter and Shea, cocoanut oil and several other nice things, and it also has oatmeal in it among other things. It is also organic.
It also says to keep him in the water to soak for a few minutes. I will get some conditioner to use to leave on like you do. You would think that my vet would have had some thought on this but no, that is why I am looking for another one. Mine kept wanting him to take allergy pills and I would not. I make my own cilloidal silver so I can make it mild and just pour it over him. I am afraid to give it by mouth since it may give him stones, like it did to me.
I am also glad it worked so well with your baby. It i so awful to watch them itch so, my boy had a bad night but this morning he seems fine again. I am sure it will take some time.
Hi again, I just went and bought this shampoo, I found some reviews on Amazon.com and they agree with you that works so I go with the majority, a hundred horseman can't be wrong, thanks
