Day one of giving Chaka his Giardia meds was successful...but not without a struggle...I managed to feed him the Panacur powder by mixing it with cream cheese and making it into a little ball and he ate it...but when I tried to do that with the Flagyl pill...I was not so successful...he caught on very quickly to what I was doing...I literally had to open his mouth and gently get him to eat the cream cheese with the Flagyl in it...
So, today I bought Greenies Pill Pockets...I broke off a little piece of one and fed it to Chaka and he LOVED it! I am hoping the the scent is strong enough that he will eat it with the pill tomorrow morning...as for the Panacur...I am debating whether or not I should mix it in with his breakfast (wet/dry Fromm combo) or try it with the cream cheese again....
Feel free to give me your suggestions...more importantly, wish us luck! I just want my little guy to get better soon :)

Mix it with the smallet amount you can to get him to eat it. Liverwurst worked great for us also because it has a strong smell and is very soft to put whatever you want into it.Paws and fingers crossed for you both. The pill pockets didn't work at all for us.

I used american cheese slices (1.4 slice squished around the pill).. and for me the key was having "chasers" (followup pieces) handy nearby so once THE important one was in, no "separating and spitting" could take place before another - maybe even better goody was heading down the gullet...
I even used sliced turkey for chasers... I know it's salty, but the goal was pill IN and DOWN!
good luck!

We wound up just putting the pill in the back of his throat. Not very graceful, but he saw right through our treat tricks.
Good luck to you and I hope your little one is feeling better soon!

oh just read the cream cheese did not work
the pill pockets are good if they are the pill pockets for the cat
they seem to do better with them since they are smaller and no time to eat the good stuff and spit out the rest..lol

Greenies products have never been a success around here ... and i dislike using things outside their normal diet range.
I am old school ... open mouth, place pill in back of throat, close the mouth, blow the nose. Then treats for swallowing. Usually a piece of cheese or liverwurst.

Huh, I have never had trouble with meds here. These pugs will eat anything. I don't even have to hide it in anything, just offer the special med treat and they swallow. It especially works if they are both standing beside each other, they don't want the other to get what they are getting so the swallowing is very quick.![]()

Sardines are also stinky and might hide the pill smell. Even stinkier - raw green tripe.
