This morning hubby woke me up at 6am and said Chaka had been licking his front paws for quite some time this morning...so I checked them out and they are red in between the toes...I also looked at his back paws and those look totally normal, no redness or swelling.
I took Chaka in the bath and washed his front paws with oatmeal dog shampoo and for now the licking has stopped...
I researched food allergies and it seems that Chaka doesn't have any other symptoms...swollen face, constant itching, bumps, etc.
Could it be something he stepped in? Or is there a possibility that he is having an allergic reaction to something he ate?
He has been on Fromm's Grain Free Surf & Turf and either Fromm's Shredded Beef Wet Food or Shredded Chicken Wet Food (we interchange) since we've had him...for about a week and a half now...
We also give him Stella & Chewy's Chicken Carnivore Kisses and Beef Carnivore Crunch as treats...and last night I introduced him to Greenie's Chicken Pill Pockets (for his Giardia meds)...could any of these things be the culprit?
Please advise.
Thank you.

It could be any number of things. Typically it is yeast. Yeast is exacerbated by grains and sugars in the diet. The pill pockets could be the culprit but if the course of meds is not too long and he won't take pills without them then you may have to consider them the lesser of two evils and see if it stops when you finish the course of meds. I am not familiar with the foods and treats so cannot comment.
Yeast thrives in damp conditions so although the bath in the oatmeal shampoo was a good idea, especially as it seems to have helped, you need to make sure to dry the tootsies very thoroughly after any bathing, preferably with kitchen paper.

It may also be a reaction to the meds themselves. Keep a close eye on him as the course of treatment continues.

I have no advice to offer but I do feel sorry for you guys and for Chaka. You seem to going through a bit of bad luck with his health. I hope it all turns out for the best so that you can start enjoying each other.

I agree with Jackie (Tinkers Mom). Depending on what type of meds he is on, it could be a reaction to it. Do keep a close eye on him, and if you are at all concerned maybe a phone call to your vet might be in order. Best of luck.
