I am freaking out!!! Hubby and I went to lunch today for his birthday and we put Chaka in his crate....we were only gone for about 1hr 45min. When we got home, we realized Chaka opened his crate and got out AND he chewed a huge hole in the carpet and we caught him eating the pieces!!! What do I do??? How do I know if he ate some? Will it hurt him? We just spent over $400 for him at the vet this past week...I can't afford another vet visit until payday which isn't until the 5th! I'm freaking out! HELP!!!!

Call your vet and let him advise you. If he didn't eat that much he will pass it.

You can give peroxide until he vomits anything up that is in his stomach. It needs to be done right away though. If it is already past the stomach it won't help. Watch him very closely for signs of distress (shivering, hiding, not eating) and watch his stools.
Take care,

He's acting normal...I gave him some treats and he ate them right up. No shivering or hiding. He's just following me around like usual and cuddling in my lap.

Chaka ate carpet today, Maggie at squirrel, quite a day for the pugs! Although squirrel is cheaper.

Shutting the barn door after the horse bolts or closing the crate after the pug eats the carpet---experiment with a small snap hacked off a cheap leash or a carabiner to fasten the crate beyond a clever pug's clever claws opening the crate tomorrow. Experiment to make sure the door is shut tight with the snap, not just loosely to prevent a pug trapped in the escape mode. Really, they can be such terrible toddlers.
If he ate the carpet, you should be seeing evidnce in subsequent poops. The major concern is if he stops pooping.
As long as he's eating, pooping and not throwing up, I don't think you need to be that concerned. Just monitor him to make sure he seems ok. Crafty little puggie...
