How old is your Pug and what gender? My Pug Luigi had elongated soft palate. I had it corrected with laser surgery. He had breathing issues. He would stop and breath loud after playing with Lucia my other Pug. After the surgery, and when not excited his breathing is normal; no longer loud and stressful.

At 6 months he is still growing, hopefully his nostrils will continue to grow. Our vet said not to consider the operation until 12 months when it looked like Wally's nostrils were too small, and one day they just seemed to open right up. Does your pup snore, gasp or snort like a pig, or is it just the breathing hard/mouth breathing?

The vet can check the length of his palate when he goes under anaesthetic for his neutering. They can't tell how long palate is and whether it needs to be done until the dog is under, so a routine procedure is a good opportunity to have it properly checked out and get an estimate so you can plan for the surgery if it's needed.
