    Default fire ants :-(

Today when I was walking Lola before we headed to puppy class - I looked down at her and she had a funny expression - kind of like "HELP ME!" - and then I saw a bunch of little specks on her back legs - we had walked through an ant hill :-( I freaked out and brushed them off her, picked her up to inspect, that's when I felt the bites - fire ants :-( I thought she was fine I swear I checked her then, but later on when we were outside I noticed she got bit twice...they don't seem to be bothering her - haven't seen her licking at them and she's acted normally today.

I gave her a 1/4 of a claritin for her allergies anyway, so I'm thinking that would help too.

    Any other advice?

Nope ... fire ants are akin skeeters. An antihistamine in and cortisone cream is always my answer for bug bites/rashes on critters or humans.

Between the ants and mosquitos we look like we're doing a strange dance half the time. The pests are abundant this year!

yeah i was close to the road Jackie, and afterwards I thought how funny I must have looked if any cars drove by. But I was much too intent on swatting the ants off of my lil pup and then shaking myself once I started feeling the bites.

at least lola doesn't seem to notice her 2 bites :-/ not that i noticed we had done it of course, but had no idea that just walking through an ant pile would result in so many ants on my poor pup!

i haven't noticed any mosquitos yet...but the pollen outside is enough to make me itch (or i'm allergic to lola).

Tinker and I both had small blisters from the ants, mine itched like crazy but she didn't seem bothered. She snaps at the mosquitos and we both look rather spastic!!I hate to think I'm going to have to spray myself before each walk but I guess I will.We heard the county is going to spray from the plane 4/3, that's how bad they are already! My husband buys fire ant killer from Ace, it's in an orange and white container, we put it on any and all mounds and it does a great job, just keep the dogs away from it.I don't remember the name of it.The pollen is bad but we had several showers today so it's washed off things and out of the air but it ran in yellow rivers down my driveway.

Keep in mind that fire ants not only bite, they also sting and have venom similar to wasps. Fire ant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
