Hi everyone been away for a little while with college and work but now that college is finally coming to a close I feel like I can reconnect with my PV pals... so much has happened since my last visit here..
Remington had a tumor and had to have surgery (I prayed hard it was not cancer) and thank god it was he is cancer free and has been back to his normal self (we do bi-weekly body checks)
Now I am dealing with Princess, on the 21st of March we were getting ready for bed and I hear on the ground this awful scream as if an animal was attacking another animal I turned around and see Princess screaming in pain.. I get off the bed and notice her back left leg is limp and she cannot move (this happened at 1:00 in the morning, and I dont have a car on this night) I rubbed her leg, back etc and didnt feel any bones or anything, so I placed her on the bed with me and we all tried to fall asleep... first thing the next morning my husband takes her to the vet and they said it was a slipped disc (just so you know I am calling the vet tomorrow because my husband god love him never asks questions) so she has been sent home with Predison 2 times a day (she got a shot of Dexamethasone) and an x-ray (not sure if this helps its says 10x12 1st plate) and has been in her crate now (I allow her out if the crate to pee on the back deck and eat with the other two and sometimes allow her on the couch with us)
Anyone been thru this?
I pray the meds and the R&R will help because they said surgery would be well over $5,000
hope to hear from you :-)

Bugsy slipped a disc in his back a few months back. He suddenly started screaming and dragging himself around the room. His back legs and tail were limp and he had no pain response. I recognized the symptoms and gave him pred within two minutes, and had him in the crate. He went to the vet who did an exam and x-ray and said giving the steroid immediately probably saved his mobility as he had a bad rupture/slip. He is now 98% of what he was before the injury.
Every hour, every minute after injury before they get steroids can mean more long term damage. Please be ultra religious with administering his steroids.....and understand it will make him want to drink and pee more often. Supervise and support him when he is out to potty and then put him RIGHT back in the crate. It is VERY important to keep him on crate rest. If he is going insane, ask the vet for sedatives to keep him quiet and/or keep him occupied with raw meaty marrow or beef rib bones or kongs stuffed and frozen. Keeping his crate covered with a light sheet may help him relax too.
You should notice major improvement within 72 hours, and he should be about as good as he will get at the end of a month.

Thank You Lisa
Yes she is in her crate and I swear I had more issues then she did, I actually think she likes it to be honest I just feel so bad for her.
I have noticed more of a change in her but I will continue to keep her in her crate until I get the okay from the vet, My husband has no idea when she is suppose to be out (I swear that man) but the vet is only a phone call away tomorrow and I will find out more. She has a bone with her, some toys and water, but I do put her on the back deck alone (without the 2 other pugs) so she can use the bathroom in peace.

She should be on STRICT crate rest for 3-6 weeks depending on the severity of the injury.

Lisa

After reading this information and talking to my husband I called the vet today to get more information on what to do.. the vet was out today and basically she said that the paper work says "disc disease" which I have no idea what that means.. then when I asked how long she was to be crated she said until she feels better... which makes no sence to me so I plan on calling the vet tomorrow and talking to him myself to get to the bottom of this, did she just pull a muscle, does she have a disc disease, will she need the $5,000 plus surgery
Until then she is in the crate until I talk to the vet and I feel until she is done with her medicine (I swear I need a new vet)
