I'm so sorry you are going through this. Please feel free to come to this board with all your concerns and pug problems. None of us consider it whining when someone has a sick little Pug. I hope your baby is better really soon.

The back hunching is familiar to me; that's what Peyton did when he had pancreatitis. But if they've done all that testing, I'm sure they probably checked for pancreatitis, especially since it can be fatal if untreated. You're smart to try to cut back the size of the meals and feed a bland diet rather than let your Pug be in pain after a full meal. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for you to be going through this for days. Best of luck; I hope they find out what's wrong quickly.

Another bad night last night, with a couple of two-hour episodes of pain, shivering, panting, and yelping breaking up the night. Not much sleep for us, or him, for about the 7th night in a row. (to say that I'm getting "crabby" would be a gross understatement) The vet says she still doesn't know what might be wrong, but wants to do an endoscopy and/or a biopsy of his intestine "just to see." Doesn't exactly instill confidence in me.

Has anyone ever taken their dog to a university hospital? That seems to be where the serious internal medicine vets are in our state (Colorado) and I'm pondering taking him up there to be seen.

@ AMC7181, how was your Peyton diagnosed with pancreatitis? Is there a specific number in the blood chemistry (I have three pages of numbers...) that indicates pancreas health? Though one vet speculated that it sounded just like pancreatitis, the ultrasound didn't seem to show any problems with his pancreas, though I know it really depends almost 100% on the skill of the technician.

I'm sorry he and you are going through this. I agree that a second opinion is in order. I've had problems in the past with Buddy when it was suggested we go to a university hospital. Although Buddy's problems cleared up before we had to take that route, if it hadn't we definitely would've been there. I think that would be a good idea, they are usually cutting edge and have all of the machines, etc they need for a diagnosis. I hope you can fix him soon.

Thanks, Jennifer. He is with the specialists now, at a really amazing clinic associated with the university. They even have a "family room" where you can curl up on the couch with your furkids and watch movies, read with them, etc. when they're not undergoing procedures or intubated or something. Every little thing is making me weepy these days, and that just set me over the edge......what a nice, nice thing to offer.

His name is Ike, and he has been my constant companion, court jester, and wise counsel in my life for ten years. Today they'll do a battery of things like a barium treatment, ultrasound (again), endoscopy, etc. I pray they find what's wrong, and that it can be treated or controlled. He has many more good years in him, and it would simply kill me to lose him so young. Any and all prayers would be so welcome.
