Can anyone give me any advice/comments on the best age to get my little fella Nuggy neutered?
He is just over 4 months old and is definitely in love/lust with his toy "kitty".
    Thanks in advance.

Has your vet not talked to you about it? I don't know if it's the same for boys and girls, but my vet suggests around 6 months for my pup.

6 months is ideal. I had Marty done at 4 months because he was a major humper, unfortunately it didn't curb the behavior. For Marty humping isn't sexual, it's an anxiety relief. If he gets excited, stressed, etc. he humps.

    Take care,

Our vet recommended to have Nano neutered at six months. When the time came, we ended up waiting just a few weeks more so his baby teeth could finish coming out, and she was able to take out an impacted tooth or two at the same time. It took a month or two after, but Nano's humping has really settled down. His 'girlfriend' (his favorite giant stuffed Pikachu) and him barely hang out anymore :p

I don't think anybody who knows my views on neutering will be surprised when I say that I disagree with neutering at 6 months. Hormones are vital for growth, so I would never recommend neutering before 1 years of age. Most vets in my country would agree. A dog should be fully developed before you start messing with their hormones. Winston was neutered at the age of 1 (bc of undescended testicle). It hasn't caused any kind of problem. He doesn't lift his leg indoors, nor does he show much interest in females. When our girl is in heat, there is a little bit of romance going on, but never to the point where he actually mates with her.

I think it's important to realize that the US policy on neutering has little, if anything, to do with the health of the dog, and everything to do with the problem of abandoned and stray dogs.

I got my boy done at 8 months. I wanted to wait till a year/as long as possible, to give him time to "grow", but he started marking all over the house...even marking on me. The humping was one thing, the marking was completely unacceptable and I was concerned that if I didn't neuter him soon, he would continue to mark his whole life. He stopped the marking the day he was neutered...whew!

I agree they need the hormones to fully develop properly. I just got a frenchie puppy and the agreement per the contract is by 1yr old. I asked his breeder about it and she said it's much better for them to wait.
